I think the very act of placing some sort of cloth between your face/nose and others will help. I cycle, and when I do, I have a couple of neck warmers pulled up over my face with sunglasses clamping down on them at the bridge of the nose. It's uncomfortable, but....
Is right, I think the public recognise this which is why the fear factor has gone.Because overall, even after the initial numbers go up after the weekend, the trend shows its declining. The peak seems to be behind the UK now.

I think its fair to say that wearing any mask will not be a bad thing
They can be if not properly handled as @Bruce Wayne said. Touch the front of it and anything on your hand is now held in place so you can breathe it right in. Properly worn masks are pain in the rear
Yes, but the vital point is that if EVERYONE wears one, they do have a massive impact on the transmission of the virus.I think its fair to say that wearing any mask will not be a bad thing. But they dont make you immune/safe, and folk who think they will, could be a bit disappointed.
Saw earlier that you make a point of having an early morning bike ride. Thats was more responsible that having one a 1.00 pm but with a mask on.
I think that, though, is if you're absolutely honking away into the material with sneezes and coughs of high velocity; normal breathing (or even raised through exercise) will see a lot just not penetrate....You‘d think so, but (I’ll have to try to find the article) some researchers tested various materials. Some cloths filtered absolutely nothing and can lead to a false sense of security. Even with a well fitted surgical mask, hand hygiene and social distancing have to be maintained.

...which is why we need them mass produced.Thing is, everyone cant wear one, so folks that have one might think they are "safe".

It's inevitable (the direction of travel on this issue of masks) that we'll be instructed to wear one when the lockdown is lifted.
As long as they are available to buy and in suitable quantities that they can be quickly replaced. The issue is that this isn't going to be an easy thing to do, at all....which is why we need them mass produced.

A lot of people forget that the Hong Kong flu happened too, was only 50 years ago.
These things are more and more likely to take hold in a globalised world.
And SARS, ebola etc...
Ha Ha.I checked the instructions on some grade A weed killer earlier today. @Joey66
And by jove, (one for the kids there), in the box was a face mask AND protective gloves.
On the down side, it kinda means I now have to worry about Covid and weed killer ffs.
