lol I'm sure everyone uses arbitrary rules to do whatever they want anyway, just as you are. Hopefully you'll grow to understand that you're no different to them though.

I do find it all a bit Monty Python, as most who give out about others being out start by saying "i was out today". Thats not a dig at any poster on here.

Its like the hoarding, if people feel they are missing out on something they will alter behavior not to.

Everyone should be sent a copy of the lord of the flies for the next lock down.

Jeepers mate, sorry to hear all that sound like an absolute ordeal and your heart wouldn't be the better for it, what a massive emotional roller coaster. Dr on call sounds like he jumped the gun a bit. Hope you are both doing good and hopefully they did something for her symptoms in the hospital? Are the Palliative care team visiting you guys at home?
Thanks mate , They gave her antisickness medication at the hospital , the care team stopped coming a couple of weeks ago when they took the driver off her arm .
They are coming out today to put it back on her arm and will start calling everyday to change it over.

Thanks for all the good wishes on here too many to respond individually.

Sounds like a bit of nausea mate, weird that the on call thought it was covid but i'm sure they had their reasons, the driver can really help manage this and hopefully it wont be an issue going on for her comfort.

We're all thinking of you both on here mate, you take care of yourself as well.

The good weather is a massive contributing factor in this.

Needs a load of bad weather to drive them back inside.
I totally agree that the weather isn't helping at all when you consider the amount of people in parks and cycling around etc. I've been quite vocal about this.

However, when playing the devil's advocate a period of bad weather will have its own consequences: not able to go out in the garden; queuing in the heavy rain.

That'll bring its own physical and mental health problems, so it's not as easy as that. People following guidelines properly would actually be better.

It'll be interesting to see how the death rate and hospital admissions pan out over the next few weeks: if they even stay steady, that's a massive failure.

Lockdown over in Prague. But they're wearing masks so it's okay.
TBF, that photo foreshortens the distance on that image and is taken from an angle to show greater density. Also, those face masks - if all wear them (which all are doing there) - reduce the transmission of infection to one 37th of the rate without wearing masks. Almost neutralises it in fact. Which is why we all need these masks ASAP.

I'm not sure that's been at all proven?

But I am allowed to go out on a bike ride? That's not an 'arbitrary rule' at all. The government have made it clear you are allowed to do that.

I don't go out having BBQs in parks or meeting my friends?

Thanks for that comprehensive report.

It sounds to me like Ireland's governing class have dealt pretty efficiently with this. Early lockdown; testing and tracing in the community - and you'll get the benefit of that soon in terms of easing down the lockdown measures.

I know Ireland have a health insurance system, but it looks like it's done better than the UK given that the positive cases / death ratio for Ireland is 18:1 and the UK is 7:1.
The countries can't be compared in relation to how each is dealing with a pandemic,
Ireland has a number of advantages over the UK, most importantly size the population of Ireland is about the same as greater Birmingham, pollution which seems to be a major driver of deaths is obviously going to be worse in a more densely populated country, Ireland has the youngest population in Europe if the virus kills mainly older people then a younger population is a massive advantage. No 2 countries should be compared because every countries has its own factors that will determine the results.

Watch this from 45-46 minutes (Dr Rachel Clarke):

If everyone wears them then they are dramatically successful. If you wear them for yourself, they're not. Ergo, everyone needs to wear them.

But north and south of the border in Ireland there ARE differences, and that surely points to the different approach adopted by governments.

Aye I get that mate - and know this wasn't directed at me.

If I was breaking the rules - i.e. I was the one going to the park to have a BBQ - then by all means, fair enough.

But all I've done every day is get out for my allotted exercise, which there is - thankfully and rightly - no rule against, at all.

In the case of the people down at the lake near me having BBQs yesterday, I didn't see it as I didn't go down that way when I went on a run. My mate was on a bike ride and he messaged me to say that it was busy.

With the weather turning now, while I don't want it to because it's at least been able to be a bit brighter in a crap time and it's nice to have that rather than constant rain, it should mean you don't get big groups of people who aren't out to exercise or for 'essential' trips (however you qualify that) - nobody is off down to a lake to have a BBQ when it's 13 degrees and hammering it down, are they?
