Just had a walk through an industrial estate (work related), lockdown has unofficially ended by the amount of cars parked up at factory's and self employed vans tearing about compared to last week. Can't see it lasting now, people have had enough.

Factories and self employed are still aloud to work. All manufacturing is classed as key by the government

A bit simplistic in my opinion mate, its nothing everyone doesn't all ready know. herd immunity is the only show in town, its how you approach the duality of achieving it, were the article is wrong is the universality of that. It is absolutely important how a country develops a method, policy and approach working toward a duality of herd immunity in my opinion.

I think you have to separate the concept of running open armed toward the virus to achieve herd immunity from the the duality of herd immunity that can be achieved through a variety of methods and that will be down to approach and policy of each individual governments and that is important in fact critical, the start and end game are known, but the impact of the in between are controllable (to a degree) through approach and chosen methods to manage this.

Just because the majority of people are overweight does not make it right to be overweight
Its a proven fact that those with a BMI over 25 will suffer more from covid 19 than those of a healthy weight

Yeah...not letting you get away with that. We have very few proven facts in all this.

Yes we generally have seen people that are overweight and especially obese be more likely to have difficulties if they become infected, but I have not seen anything that gives a definitive BMI.

Closest I've seen was some data out of the US and the referenced BMI was 40 - morbidly obese.

No data just semi-educated guess work here -- you probably would not see statistical or clinical differences until BMI is at least over 30 (if not higher) in an otherwise health, youngish individual. How you carry the weight may matter too.

BMI is an absolute garbage indicator of health.
I recall going for major surgery ten years ago and my surgeon saying something similar. Rugby players and so on can have high BMI and yet be very fit indeed. But overweight people in general are at higher risk of complications from most conditions. There’s also the issue of direction of causation in there as well. Is someone overweight because of a health condition or has being overweight caused it.

Yeh it's bollocks. Worked out on your gender, age, height, weight & some jarg activity level. Does not differentiate on how someone's weight is built up on muscle or fat.

Most people in the UK are nowhere near active enough or have anywhere near the muscle mass they should.

BMI is distorted by heavier and active people with decent muscle mass.

BMI therefore does work for most of the population, who are just fat.
