May's/Patel's hostile environment raises it's ugly head yet again. (Edit - extending it to others)

Medics trained overseas barred from UK frontline

To be honest mate, I agree with the GMC on this one. They've granted people's licence back who had full registration previously and that's a risk in itself. To hand it to people who've never worked in the NHS before would be a risk too far. As it happens they're not short of junior doctors in the crisis as acute hospitals can keep all the junior doctors they want and they're not rotating into sub-specialties.

No. People who come from overseas that try and blag qualifications have created a hostile environment.

She worked in the same place as me years and years ago. Scary woman she was, especially on the Christmas do when pissed.

This is what I was talking about yesterday. All day just hundreds of people if not more walking around the park. Presumably infecting each other. There's no way you can avoid each other on these paths. This park was closed last week so madness to reopen on sunny Easter weekend in my humble opinion

They did say the chance of infection spreading outdoors through just walking by someone infected is incredibly slim. Although, I guess the sentiment remains. How many will be sat down on the same benches / patches of grass potential spreading germs? How many will be opening gates with their hands etc.

I don't think it'll be possible to keep people indoors in London particularly as most live in flats or don't have a garden of their own - which will naturally impact the volume of people in parks.

You mean like all the medical students who are graduating early because we don't have enough doctors.
Yes, you are a massive right wing Tory.
Final year students that aren’t allowed to perform the duties of Doctors, but to do roles that they will have performed as part of placements in the build up?

We should just let people in on their word should we? I could just rock up with a printed certificate from The university of Mogadishu and you’d be happy for me to practice medicine on you and your family?

It’s a bizarre hill to fight on, but just because somebody has used the phrase ‘hostile environment’ doesn’t automatically link it to the mess by the home office. It’s something that’s been in place nearly twenty years. It’s not political point scoring, it’s common sense.

Mate, you were the one making a big song and dance about unqualified doctors.

Granted, these people will be more or less of the required standard anyway but unless they have completed all exams in the proscribed amount of time, strictly speaking they are not qualified. Would you advocate two year full degree courses? Kids leaving school at 14/15.

What the actual [Poor language removed] are you on at?

Here’s a timeline so you can follow along:

- Moron posts article up about the GMC not processing foreign doctors at present as final stages can’t be carried out. Attempts to postulate this is caused by Tory ‘hostile environment’ policy because the article uses the same phrase.

- Point out that the GMC have done this for years and it’s been the standard required by governments both sides of the spectrum. It’s there to ensure only actually qualified doctors practice, rather than chancers rocking up. State Id quite like only Doctors qualified to practice to actually be practicing.

- You steam in making the point of final year students have been released from exams. You miss the crucial point that they aren’t allowed to perform the duties of a Doctor and are there filling roles they already have done. They will presumably have to return at some point to complete final exams.

Again, I’m not sure what exactly your argument is here, apart from that the GMC should believe that everyone who says they are a Doctor, is in fact a Doctor?

Its also to ensure our proceedures are followed. Its also worth pointing out that many UK hospitals are teaching hospitals; any one with "University" in its name is.

Every hospital has loads of unqualified nursing staff, and junior doctors, as in they havnt completed a final year exam, but they do know what they are doing. Cos otherwise they wouldnt be doing it.

A hell of a lot of people are going to be quite sick. How will normal life return if a good proportion of the population is sick in bed. Big flu epidemics have caused chaos in the past.

We get everyone we possibly can back to work, as quickly as possible. As far as I’m aware it’s inevitable that a large proportion of the population will catch the virus at some point - the lockdown is just to ‘flatten the peak’ so as to make sure the healthcare system can cope?

A lot of people won’t need hospitalisation and as far as ‘normal’ goes, they’re about as useful to society and themselves if they’re either sick in bed or locked down.

Dear me!

You made a song and dance about unqualified doctors.

I pointed out that, strictly speaking, we have unqualified doctors being rushed into service from medical schools in this country.

Or is it that you only have a problem with unqualified doctors/nurses from other countries.

I hope this helps as I'm not sure I can put this in more simplistic terms.

I CAN USE BIG LETTERS IF THAT WOULD MAKE THINGS EASIER.

I wonder if as a consequence to this, vaccines will be made compulsory (both for covid and regular flu/mmr etc)?
I know a lad who takes his kids out of school on vaccine days (loves a conspiracy theory), it will be curious to see how anti-vaxxers respond to a vaccine being on offer for COVID 19
Was thinking just that and has all this had an impact on the thinking of anti vaxers and their ideology.

Hopefully it is compulsory.

I get the flu shot in work every year its gift and id encourage anyone to get to it, young, but certainly older people. The Mrs got a horrible dose of flu in Nov, lasted for a few weeks and didnt touch me at all. There is usually a drive in the health service for everyone to get the flu shot in the winter and they often struggle to hit the target of 60% health service guideline. Id say there will be no problem this year. even in the community i think people will actively look and buy a flu shot.

In regard to this virus, i was reading a bit about what might happen when a vaccine is developed, might be a while before the chain of distribution actually meets the need, billions to be vaccinated.

Mandatory vaccination is their greatest fear and part of their conspiracy Doomsday.

There's all sorts of nonsense being peddled about this all being connected to some Rothschild new world order conspiracy where the vaccines are used to control, sterilize or euthanize us. They're implanting microships to track us all.

I hope they make it mandatory and charge those who don't vaccinate themselves or their kids. The way we all live today has been shown to facilitate the global spreading of a fatal and highly contagious virus in a very scary amount of time. Viruses are unpredictable and there's every chance this can happen again in our lifetimes.
