Our media is genuinely dreadful.

They've been - led by the Murdoch rags - trying to get people to keep buying papers all week, so that they can keep giving out trusted news to the public.

Its really dangerous to say things like that; with the NHS being under such pressure if peoples sides split through laughter there will be no way of treating them.

The way the deaths from the weekend aren't supposedly included in the death toll till the likes of today, why don't they just put out a weekly death toll, say Wednesday too Wednesday?

Don't like what seems like a push from the media to relax these controls. Is it me or people trying to play fast and loose with lives?

Banging on about the 3 week review, does it seem like it's particularly safe out there at the moment? Release it too soon and we will be back to square one. They should all k'off.

in practice you'd get tested, then get an official document proving you had the disease and were immune for X months

in reality you'll just get a load of fake documents circulating that people have paid to get online

IT'S all just talk at the moment but basically you would need to prove you have had covid 19 and have documentation to prove it to get your Covid 19 passport
I know a lot of people could have had it and been asymptomatic ,that's where an antibody test would need to be developed

Yep, one of the reasons why I think that “herd immunity” is just not feasible without a vaccine - far too many of the “herd” (especially here in the US where obesity is very prevalent) would be vulnerable.

I believe we need to focus on other approaches whilst we wait for therapies/vaccine, thankfully we can learn from what other countries are doing as this thread discusses.

Agree but personally I'm quite optimistic about something being found. I know most studies haven't been peer reviewed or tested in a large enough sample, but there's a few options that have shown encouraging signs and it only takes one of them to work out.

COVID-19 kills in a very precise way really - severe pneumonia compounded by existing health problems. If we can "cut the link" between COVID-19 attacking the body and causing that specific response then we have a winner.

As you say though, it's by no means guaranteed. But with this being a global catastrophe rather than just, say, an African one - where the west in particular just shrug the ol' shoulders and say "shame that" - then I can see a fast track solution being more viable than usual.

Unless they printed them like money. Watermarks. Something hard to forge.

Or each had a unique number the Police could check against a database.

Such would be the value of them that forgery would be inevitable (like money itself) - the only way it would ever work would be to use an existing document (passport would probably be the most suitable as everyone uses them) and put the numbers onto a database that every cop, border or customs agent and government could access in order to verify the authenticity of any claim to have one.

Even then you'd probably have the usual countries (of which we would be one) selling them to the rich.

Yeah I edited that post before to include that.

No system is foolproof but the certificate system is doable.

Indeed the only reason those serology tests aren't here now is because it'd completely invalidate the lockdown unless there was a system in place (and even then it'd mess up the lockdown as you'd have to have police stopping pretty much everyone constantly for it to work.)

I don't buy for a second that the ones they have "don't work" - just another lie.

Cos people need a daily death total to stay in.
