Which for me is why I would keep lockdowns until the end of April but from May open back up with restrictions to atleast keep businesses/economy going and folk in a job -

have doormen at most city centre bars/pubs policing the numbers allowed in at any one time.

Restaurants and cinemas etc to have reduced maximum bookings per 2 hours with tables more spaced apart

Barbers/salons to also ensure no consistent number of people sat closely together waiting.

Jobs still home working but those unable too/ self employed allowed back out to work but following adequate social distancing as best able to.

Do that for weeks at a time with short intervals of lockdowns of 3-4 weeks in between could be a happy median going forward until hopefully come August/September a large enough majority have had it.

It'll all depend on the numbers though. There can't really be any set date on this just at this stage.

If the numbers start to flatten off (deaths and confirmed cases, probably the latter being more important) at the end of week 3 of our lockdown - which is when other nations have started to see similar results, then we'll be able to assess going forward. We obviously need that to happen at some stage next week for us to stay on course with most other European nations.

From there, we will likely need another two weeks of lockdown to ensure we don't get a second wave immediately.

If all of the above happens, then an early May date for the gradual easing off of restrictions (as Austria and Denmark are planning) seems reasonable. But the above will have had to have happened for that to be the case so we can't really set dates just yet.

There's also the point of keeping an eye on how Austria/Denmark and other countries gradually coming out of lockdown then cope. If there is a surge in cases in those nations, we have a head start of approx 1-2 weeks on them and we need to take advantage of that.

Even if a vaccine comes it wont be feasible for everyone to get it either though. It looks like the virus is here to stay . Controlling it will be the thing

It‘s the same with this testing that everyone wants. No one believes that we will do 100,000 tests a day, and even if we could there are 65,000,000 of us so that’s about 2 years to do everyone......

RIP
More than 4,300 people have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus. Among them are frontline medical staff. Sirin Kale tells the story of two of them. The two men did not know each other, probably their paths never crossed, but in death they would find a strange symmetry. Dr Amged El-Hawrani and Dr Adil El Tayar - two British-Sudanese doctors - became the first working medics to die of coronavirus in the UK. Their families don't want them to be remembered in this way - but rather as family men, who loved medicine, helping their community, and their heritage.

Like the many men and women who come from overseas to join the NHS, El-Hawrani, 55, and El Tayar, 64, left behind friends and relatives back home to dedicate their careers to the UK's health service. They married and had children - El-Hawrani settling in Burton-Upon-Trent; El Tayar in Isleworth, London. And they became pillars of their communities, while maintaining ties to the country of their birth, the Sudan that both men loved.

Ultimately most the population will need to contract it before restrictions are fully lifted. Imperials latest modeling estimated (about a week ago) that near to 3% of the population have had it. It's going to take a fair bit of time before that number rises (relatively safely) to 80/100%.

Permanently angry?

Some attitudes never change.

Particularly from you.

You've shown more anger than I ever have. I sit here and laugh at the likes of you. You and others I cannot be bothered to mention have lightened up many a day and night with your ranting in the other thread. Oh by the way, are you having withdrawal symptoms with the 'Brexit' threads lying fallow at the moment? Don't worry, you'll be able to bash the usual suspects (excellent film!) at some time in the future.

In the meantime, please continue to provide what little entertainment you can...

Well, that's a point proven, thanks! Always better with some context lol
