Let's not get carried away it's still very early days.

Quote the opposite, the virus is probably 80% or more done in terms of spread, and 2/3rds way done in number of deaths.

I know the absolute numbers look and feel bad with still a few hundred deaths a day piling up when the country is shellshocked, but the headlines which everyone is focussing on are very much lagging indicators. The worst is technically over.. but I feel the grief and the economic fallout is only just beginning.

Makes me think this thing has been developed in a lab - seems very random in how it infects, the range of symptoms from nothing to severe pneumonia etc.

Wouldn't be suprised if the Chinese were dicking around in some Wuhan Lab and it got loose / infected a worker who's taken it out into the public unaware.

Don't hold your breath for a vaccine. It might not come for years, and who's to say how effective it will be.

An end to the lockdown is still a little ways away and will be contingent on two things imo:

- A clear and well established downtrend in the number of active cases which will mean healthcare services have pressure on them eased. At the moment we are still seein active cases rising slowly and it will take a little more time fo the trend to reverse

- Widescale antigen testing to establish how widespread the virus really is and therefore what the likely impact of removing restrictions is

That sounds as far off as a vaccine - they have already bought a load of tat that doesn't work from China.

In terms of wider implications this could be a very troubling development, if they can then confirm Animal to Human Transmission then the future looks pretty bleak!

Let's hope it's some sort of freakish occurrence!

There’s never been a vaccine successfully developed for any coronavirus, including SARS which they’ve been trying to crack for 17 years.

The antibody test is vital, but will only be a massive boost if the numbers found to be positive are huge.

Not quite true. They did create a vaccine and it passed animal testing.. by the time it got to Human testing the outbreak was gone and funding wasn't there.

Why do you think they have so quick to develop on for COVID19?

Which is why the “herd immunity” strategy is not totally discredited.. it just needs to be managed so that it doesn’t overwhelm our resources
