Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I think there are alot of folk who think this pandemic is solely about physical health and forget the econimic, social, mental health & morale factors that all come into play.

As you said a pandemic can affect folk for a year whereas an economic collapse can destroy an entire generation or two for decades. Add in morale questions on how long you can lock up schools and deny children their education, how long the Govt will pay these 80% of peoples wages (as believe me it wont be forever) and the fact if many people lost mortgages/businesses/homes and thousands were on the streets the virus would spread far more and put more pressure on other parts of the country that should be isolating such as social services, etc.

Its simply not feasible to lockdown for imo longer than 8 weeks which China roughly did or maybe a bit longer before starting to open up and even they are having a 2nd wave (and are lying gits).

Simply put I think people have to come to the realisation that this thing isnt going to go away and we all just have to deal with it as best we can.

About 2 weeks before lockdown when news about the virus spreading around was starting to come out we went out for a birthday meal and whilst I took more precautions than usual (carry a hand sanitizer wherever I go & try open doors using the sleeve of my coat) It was actually a nice relief mentally actually not stuck in watching the news telling me I was doomed.

Even if for a while folk decide to wear masks and gloves out and about for a few weeks people have to at one point get back to it - the show must go on as a wise man once said (not Kenwright).

Oh, the lockdown can't go on forever you say? Thanks for that stunning insight, certainly haven't had that angle in the thread before

How long will lockdown go on for? Are we expected to extend the lockdown for another 3 weeks.

I'm concerned about how the majority of the population going back in society or are we taking this on a weekly basis

How long can business stay close
You will be lucky if lockdown is over in May when parks in London have to be closed today as 3000 were caught in one park sunbathing FGS .......also crowds over 50 will still be in lockdown imo till September......people are dying daily .....
LBC this am has had ago at footballl clubs LFC Spurs furlough their stafff with not topping up the 20 percent wages with profits of 40 Million .....also the most selfish excersising people - joggers, and cyclist joggers for running behind public and panting all over them, and cyclist riding in big groups - not social distancing ........plus riding long distances when cars are not allowed to do this........
Evidently Hancock has now stated sunbathing in public is now illegal after yesterday .......

The only thing that eradicates a virus is a vaccine.

Or all vulnerable people die and only the fit & healthy remain. Nazi Germany would be proud of that idea.
To be fair what else do you suggest without a vaccine.
As you said this won’t go away without a vaccine and until one comes along vulnerable people will continue to die

Lockdown is the only sensible option at the moment. The UK is "lucky" that we are running 1-2 weeks behind some noticeable other countries. I'm sure that our govt will not be tempted to lift restrictions until those others have done so and we can closely observe reinfection rates.

For how long ?

for it to be removed there has to be:

i) a significant decline in admissions and positive tests;
ii) NHS has to be up to speed;
iii) a well-resourced, rapid and capable testing system in place that can contact trace; and
iv) a register has to be kept of the people who've had it

if we open up after just (i) happens then it will probably end up being a worse disaster than what we have already seen

Tremendous summary of this mornings news there from Joey, even if it did take a bit of deciphering :

Lock down to continue past May.
Parks in London closed today, after a mass sunbathing protest in a London park yesterday.
Groups of 50 to be banned until September - in Joeys opinion.
People continue to die daily ( the Logans Run effect )
LBC radio station criticises minge bag Premier League footy clubs for not giving their off field staff the full whack.
Joggers and cyclists become the new public enemy number one.
Sunbathing in public is now a capital offence.

Further updates as our roving reporter, Joey receives them.

For how long ?

Need to get infection rate BELOW 1 per infected person - that indicates each infected person is statistically not replacing himself with another.

At the moment that rate in Ireland is under 3 but greater than 2. In mid March it was 4.3!!

I expect restrictions to continue at this level or greater for at least 3 more weeks - they are working but it will take more time.

Travel abroad is going to be minuscule for many months I believe.

Thanks.... but I was asking Nymzee as his response to not having a vaccine was to continue with the lockdown.

I wanted to check that he doesn’t believe this needs to continue until then, as we may be waiting a very long time.
