Ha I wouldn’t say I’m blind, I’ve actually looked into it a lot, I just don’t think it’s true.

Think we might be lucky to get a championship in 2020 mate, the GAA could be in a bit of trouble in my opinion, not for profit organisation of just south of turnover of 75 mill, largely driven by the championship gate.

The loss of the championship could see a huge financial impact with very little financial distribution from county all the way down to grassroots. That’s my concern for the GAA now to be honest mate.

It would be a pity, think Armagh could be a bolter.
I just can’t see the appetite for anyone looking to go stand in a crowd of thousands anytime soon.

You know what I mean, though. The economic / social impacts of this will far outweigh the actual effect of the virus in terms of numbers of people.

I don't think it's that either. We've been in lockdown in the UK 13 days and look at the damage it has already done to a far amount of people and businesses.

I think acting like people are 'bored' of it is kind of shifting the goalposts really.

It takes years to build things up and days to knock them down.

People need to learn how to endure during harder times that’s all. The UK of the 40’s would be ashamed of how weak and spoiled this nations people have become.

I know, i'll leave me tin foil hat off for the moment, but China quite clealy working this whole situation to a greater plan - we'll get through this and stumble into a sino-west coldwar and they'll employ North Korea as the nuclear keeper of the peace.

Sino west cold war has been happening for a while. And North Korea is China leashed attack dog.

Unless they didn't do lockdown. Then the reverse would be true.

I keep on seeing comparisons between Italy and the U.K. the consensus from many of the experts was that we are 3 weeks behind them. I seem to recall the horror stories in Italy where the Lombardy region had become overrun was over 3 weeks ago. I know our peak is yet to come but we have not run out of capacity yet with a huge effort going on to increase capacity and the effects of social distancing to start taking effect in the next week or so we might just be able to manage this without the health system collapsing.

How long will lockdown go on for? Are we expected to extend the lockdown for another 3 weeks.

I'm concerned about how the majority of the population going back in society or are we taking this on a weekly basis

How long can business stay close

I think there are alot of folk who think this pandemic is solely about physical health and forget the econimic, social, mental health & morale factors that all come into play.

As you said a pandemic can affect folk for a year whereas an economic collapse can destroy an entire generation or two for decades. Add in morale questions on how long you can lock up schools and deny children their education, how long the Govt will pay these 80% of peoples wages (as believe me it wont be forever) and the fact if many people lost mortgages/businesses/homes and thousands were on the streets the virus would spread far more and put more pressure on other parts of the country that should be isolating such as social services, etc.

Its simply not feasible to lockdown for imo longer than 8 weeks which China roughly did or maybe a bit longer before starting to open up and even they are having a 2nd wave (and are lying gits).

Simply put I think people have to come to the realisation that this thing isnt going to go away and we all just have to deal with it as best we can.

About 2 weeks before lockdown when news about the virus spreading around was starting to come out we went out for a birthday meal and whilst I took more precautions than usual (carry a hand sanitizer wherever I go & try open doors using the sleeve of my coat) It was actually a nice relief mentally actually not stuck in watching the news telling me I was doomed.

Even if for a while folk decide to wear masks and gloves out and about for a few weeks people have to at one point get back to it - the show must go on as a wise man once said (not Kenwright).

I can endorse that. I was born in 1937 I'm a WW2 survivor. I do remember hard enforced rules and general depravation. UK recovered from that, it'll recover from the C19 war.

Saw that myself - obviously the antibody test could be junk but I do think this thing is around in the air and more of us will have had it over the last few months without even knowing / being hygienic and social distancing.

Right. I mean, if this thing is twice as infectious as 'flu and has been around since December... there is absolutely no way on earth that only 1.2m people on the planet have caught it, despite whatever lockdown measures have been in place for the last few weeks.

It could easily be that the thing has already spread like wildfire and through a billion people with a 0.01% mortality rate, in which case all we are doing with the lockdown is ps$$ing in the wind. There's just no way of knowing. Despite that I do still fully support the lockdown measures, because it's "planning for the worst case" which is the most anyone can do given incomplete information.
