Come on Nymz. The two are clearly linked. It's ridiculous to deny that.

But given the UK can look to certain European countries who are ahead of us on the curve, we at least should have some kind of idea how it could go when we do come out of it.

1. Never once said they're not linked I just said what I'm (me) more concerned about.

2. Every country is different, has handled this different & will handle coming out of lockdown as we've already seen so far.

Job Retention Scheme, mortgage freezing, free school meals translated to home, people can and will get through this and the gov are giving us every chance to do this.

We have literally been in lockdown for 14 days... 14 and people are already saying bin it off and just let everyone spread this thing.

I reckon anyone saying that now are the same people who were saying it 14 days ago.

Btw, yes the gov are helping out a lot of people. Not all - I don't get a penny, and around 5 million others don't, that's not including people who had lost their jobs already because of this either.

And what will all this government support lead to? Increased taxes, more austerity, more cuts (to the welfare system, likely).

It's all a vicious circle.

I think the threat was massively underestimated to begin with, probably because folks trusted the figures coming out of China. Whatever your political divide now we're seeing folks step up to the plate.

That's hugely important and emotional but I also see a stoicism. A sense that, yes there will be grief but importantly this too will pass.
Look at the daily death figures common sense should prevail- end of .......exercise, shop as you need to - think of the less fortunate than yourself, and we might beat this virus .....
Otherwise expect martial law.......

Well no, majority of the self-employed are getting 80% the same as employed you were just unlucky in how the dates fell that's all. People lose their jobs all the time, there will be work out there, Hell all the supermarkets where I live are desperate for more staff so any unemployed person that doesn't take up an offer like that needs to look in the mirror.

"And what will all this government support lead to? Increased taxes, more austerity, more cuts (to the welfare system, likely)." - yes, obviously, but we can't all get paid to not work and expect to not have to give it back somehow when this is all over can we?

Long term if people have less money or, to put it better, less opportunities to have the money they need to live, they're going to be unhealthier.

Stress, risk of unemployment, risk of losing your entire business.

Come on Nymz. The two are clearly linked. It's ridiculous to deny that.

One is short term; save lives, protect NHS, follow the lockdown rules etc.

One is long term and there needs to be a balance.

I'm not saying the time to get out of the short-term option has come. It hasn't.

But given the UK can look to certain European countries who are ahead of us on the curve, we at least should have some kind of idea how it could go when we do come out of it.
Money cannot buy you your Heath if you get this virus bad style .......

Yes fully expect higher taxes and how else are we going to get the economy back on track. Can't argue with it can you.

With no vaccine likely for a while maybe one direction could be administering antibody tests and those that have had it and recovered get more freedom, reckon there’ll be a large portion of people that have had this and not even realised

But can these people not still get it again? Has it been proven we can't get it more than once?

There's a lot of people who were 'unlucky' is my point and the answer at the moment is just use Universal Credit. A system which is obviously clogged atm and doesn't exactly compensate fully.

That point in bold - you've been banging on about health. Well hang on, so unemployed people (who may have worked 5-6 years or longer either on a certain skill or trying to build up a business which has launched in the last 12 months (12, not 2!) and aren't getting any help should just go and work in a supermarket? And not only that, but isn't that putting themselves and their families at risk? Since, you know, being in a supermarket 8 or 9 hours a day right now isn't exactly the safest place to be?

And yes I fully agree on the last point about having to pay it back. I've said as much myself. But, we surely, as tax-payers, don't want even more to be paying back when the time comes. And that's what will happen if the gov keeping topping these schemes up.
