Easy to blame the government, but they couldn't have been clearer with their requests to stay at home, and yet...

Absolutely shocking . I said similar 3 weeks ago that caused us having to stay at home.

People in this country are idiots. No two ways about it now.

I was shopping in Asda yesterday and asked about salad pots at the till when paying. I'd picked 3 up as per the rules but ideally needed a 4th for both weekend days for the wife and me. For future reference at that point.

Anyway til worker told me they have actually relaxed the rules on buying apart from baby milk and toilet rolls. Did it Friday, and it seems from her perspective since they have done people have gone right back to bulk buying items so it will soon have to be regulated again.

Amazing how stupid people are , it really is.

Well no, majority of the self-employed are getting 80% the same as employed you were just unlucky in how the dates fell that's all. People lose their jobs all the time, there will be work out there, Hell all the supermarkets where I live are desperate for more staff so any unemployed person that doesn't take up an offer like that needs to look in the mirror.

"And what will all this government support lead to? Increased taxes, more austerity, more cuts (to the welfare system, likely)." - yes, obviously, but we can't all get paid to not work and expect to not have to give it back somehow when this is all over can we?
The call went out for 20,000 farm labourers down here in the south west and they got them in a couple of days. There's no shortage of workers down here with all the bars and restaurants closed. All farming vacancies filled until end of June now.

Same down in Surrey Virginia Water royal park!

Tbf its the polices own fault - if you start locking down every local park or field/exercise area people will start flocking out further afield.

I noticed the place I go was a bit busier this morning but I know full well thats because two "local parks" have near enough been fully shut off despite most of the time I have been there in the week being very quiet and people walking the correct distance apart therefore those same folk are now walking their dogs and running around my little place.

The police and busybodies cant have their cake and eat it otherwise lock us down with army on the streets.

Makes more sense to lockdown play areas that kids congregate on but keep local green space open therefore less places get swamped.

London however is a different country all together.

Not that we cant improve on a lot of things in Ireland in our management of the virus, but we have implemented testing and community testing across the country and have mobile teams doing testing in Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Private Homes, Hotels etc - when a case is identified a contact tracing team tracks down people, the infected person has been in contact with during an infection risk and incubation period and on and on.

This has enabled us to identify clusters of the virus and shut them down, stopping the chain of infection. This is what i mean by testing infrastructure and contact tracing. We need to ramp it up to a broader scale, but the UK really need to develop this infrastructure and get their arms around this aspect of management of the virus, to stop the exponential growth. Your New Case numbers are really only as good as your testing, testing in itself isn't the solution, the fact that testing enables contact tracing is vital in breaking the chain of the virus and its exponential growth.

This is the breakdown of the numbers of "Clusters" of the virus i.e. groups of associated people who have tested positive after contact with someone who has the virus. (The outbreak location are the regional health areas):

A lot of people don't get it yet.

When we come out the other end of this, there will be considerably more people affected financially than through loss of loved ones. Some will be affected by both. But this is much, much more than a medical nightmare.

Excuse me but I very much do get that this is and will be a major economical problem.

er - they aren't locking down every local park or field/exercise area. Surrey Police couldn't do it even if they wanted to.
