Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

To me, Sweden's approach has seemed sensible so far.

4,000 cases, under 200 deaths. They know it isn't serious for the vast majority of people and they know their healthcare can handle it (better funding, lower population helps).

They have limited stuff - no gatherings, people working from home where possible, under constant review etc - but no mass lockdown. Economy is still operating at as close to normal as possible.

We'll see how it works out. They could be in for a big spike yet obviously.

Or they could get through it with their economy intact....

I know where you're coming from mate, when a death from the virus is someone of a younger age they do seem to push the 'no underlying health problems' a tad bit too much.

It's just in this instance rather than generally because as I say half the stories out are taken from Facebook posts only .

I'm not denying the story in any way , nor even questioning it as I have no information to disprove it with. However the story doesn't read like a news piece, but more of a story with an underlying purpose.

Actually re googling it there is a statement from the London hospital now that doesn't sound like that , with no further information. It seems the story I read was taken from a go fund me description!

Which if that's true then even more of this story doesn't sit right with me. If they have quickly set up s go fund me page after their son has just died , more so that the state would pay for a funeral if they didn't have the money anyway.

See what I'm saying with this now?

I work in health care mate and there are very clear protocols for treatment. The hospitalization rate is 15-20% of diagnosed of that, 3-5% might need ICU and ventilation, but first port of call is oxygen, medication and monitoring. It escalates to ICU if someone's symptoms increase and clinical situation deteriorates to "ARDS" acute respiratory distress syndrome and or pneumonia and venitlation is required. Think of it as Covid-19 being the virus, like HIV and ARDS the disease like AIDS. There are other risks like comorbidities and growing evidance around sepsis and sudden shock sepsis as associated causes of fatalities.

Been through all this over 20 years ago.

Ventilated for around 5 weeks while being treated also for sepsis. Apparently the link of cause between pneumonia / pneumonitis and sepsis was recognised around 12 years ago.

My experience of ventilation etc was such that I would, seriously, far prefer to be dead than to go through it again.

Hope your doing well heath wise these days pal.;)
