Come in David Nugent, your time is up...

What about spencer and the polish lad from swindon?

What's the point of them? One of our strikers (at least) will be off to finance this, I hope it's Beattie. Faddy has done enough for me and he'll be important in UEFA Cup next season.

Nugent should be our last centre forward signing for awhile, we need to concentrate constructively on other areas - midfield & defence top priorities.

Polish lad will be used in cup games and gently eased into reserve games, spencer on the other hand is "supposed" to be [Poor language removed] lol.

him from watford would be a good shout, instead of haemmoraging money for nugent.

if he is a stone cold blue as he priofesses, then he will run down his final year and join us for free or nominal contract in 2008.

Cal I know what your saying but its a buyers market and money maybe becoming relative if we don't get him do we spring for Dean Ashton? We still need another proven striker.BT just didn't cut it. But most of our money will be spent in the midfield and the back. I think Faddy,Anichebe and Vaughan will be in the mix with AJ no worries there.

Chances are and I know i'm going to hurt peoples feeling because I like Fernandes too. But no way are we going to outlay 12 mill on him. It will have to be structured differently. He has been playing for a contract to impress not only us but other teams in the prem he loves it here. Some of that twinkle toes stuff is meant for people to stand up and notice I know I did I thought it was bloody Ronaldo out there Saturday.Expect Spurs to vie for his attentions. We still need more bodies in with experience to fight the extra games next term.

I managed to watch the second half of Preston - Birmingham last night (they started showing the Championship here finally) and there were a few standouts. Nugent looked quick and strong, but a little lazy off the ball. Maybe down to fatigue, or who knows. One player that looked good was Bendtner for Birmingham. I dont know anything about him other than he was really running the show at times. Also defender Hill from Preston looked great. He's only a small guy, but he was everywhere, and he was really clever about pressing the attack and not getting caught out.

About Nugent though, if we do buy him Beatts has to be gone.

Preston manager Paul Simpson after the game:

He revealed: “There have been disruptions since January. If you’ve got someone on the inside who is a bad apple it can spoil everything.

“A lot of things that have gone on have affected us and I hope those responsible will have a good look at themselves.

“We were in the best position this club has been in for a long time but we haven’t done things right over the last few games.

“I admit I’ve made mistakes — but the players must accept they have let themselves down.”

This was surely David Nugent’s last game in a Preston shirt as their failure to go up will spark a scramble among Premiership clubs for the 17-goal striker’s signature.

Simpson added: “I hope it wasn’t his last game but it’s out of my hands to some extent.

“But he’s one of the players who will have to look at their performances in recent weeks and ask if he’s done enough for the side.”

I have heard this myself (from one of our young kids at netherton);)

BAH!! Wenger got there before me again!!
Bendtner is the best striker to come out Denmark in the last 20 years - that is not saying a lot I know. But IMO the best Danish striker was Preben Elkjaer in the 80s (anybody remember him?), and this lad is loads better.

He got his debut in the national team last year and has scored a fair share of goals. He is only 18-19 and buildt like an ox, quick on his feet, but his most outstanding talent is his hold-up play and ability to read the game. I think of Sheringham albeit with pace when I see him play.

Anyways I agree that Nugent coming here would be great, but I also think that the striker department is actually our strongest AJ, Vaughan and Vic will be a handful for any defence. Add Cahill as a back-up and possibly McFadden as 4th choice I would say that the money it would take to bring Nugent here could be spend better in midfield or defence. I would however hate to see him go to another PL club as he will surely be banging in goals.

Regarding Barton vs. Fernandez I believe that Fernandez is the best player and despite a big fee would be worth every penny and if it does not work out, he would not be difficult to ship out. I do however like the idea of having a British backbone to the team and Barton could represent that, his mental state is a cause for concern and Moyes does not strike me as being someone who could calm him down, maybe bringing in Duncan to tell him what an idiot he is and maybe throw a few punches at him would have the desired effect.

For midfield I would look to Landzaats of Wigan, he has Euro experience is a great player and will be cheap - he might be 31 but he would be a good addition to the squad. Also I have a soft spot for Jason Koumas and believe that in the right team he would blossom, a fee of £3 m. should be enough. And if Spurs don't get him make a move for Giles Barnes of Derby.

For defense I would go a long way to get Leighton Baines from Wigan. He is club captain and easily their best player - how this guy is not in the England squad is a mystery to me. He would however not come cheaply and there will be a lot of other clubs in for him. Put Neville at RB, with Joey and Joleon as CBs we have a great defense. For CB cover I would give Stubbs an extension of his contract and buy Michael Gravgaard from FC Copenhagen. He is so strong that he could kick-start an air-ferry and is very deadly at set pieces. He is also a a full Danish international, partnering Daniel Agger in the hear of the defense. Despite playing for FC Copenhagen he has Euro experience and would be well suited for the English game.

Lastly sell Beattie, Pistone, Naysmith and VMD to finance the deals and we would have a better squad than this year. This would leave us with the same
squad just better plus the additions of 6 players (hopefully Fernandez, Baines, Gravgaard, Landzaat, Barnes and Koumas).

Very detailed post and plenty to think about. However I think after the experience of Kroldrup, Moyes will be very reluctant to go anywhere near Denmark. Not only that but I believe what ever players he signs are already playing in England. Cannot see Moyes casting his net abroad under any circumstances.

Is Wigan your 2nd team? :D
