City getting clapped off yesterday

I think it was more of an appreciation of their world class players, which we've never had anything close to, under Martinez or otherwise.

This. Equate it to the Harlem Globetrotters getting clapped off after they have hardly broken a sweat thrashing some High School basketball team.

I honestly havent seen enough of most of the yoots to judge them and its very, very difficult to call them at the age most of them are, we have some very good players with TONS of potential, I do have my doubts that the majority will ever kick on, thats based mainly on a historical POV and the likelihood of a class of 92 ever appearing again.

As I say, as far as most of them go, it would be very, very unfair to judge any of them 1 way or the other.

I cant work DCL out at all, to me he has brief moments when I think hey up, but they are very brief, yet hes been picked by most of our managers and does have some very decent digits for the season 8 goals and 6 assists arent amazing figures by any stretch, but they are fairly decent. I honestly recall watching Harry Kane a few years ago and he was beyond dire, maybe thats what we are hoping, maybe, I just dont know Dave, hes a weird 1 for sure.

I really think it's unfair to judge the youth players on this season, when they've had no direction, manager or strategy to work with. If they've shown potential in hard circumstances, or flashes of quality, then thats good enough, because it is fair to judge them on that, as we've also judged current top players who used to be patchy and inconsistent or weak physically when they were young.

Kenny, DCL, Lookman, Davies, Dowell, Vlasic have all done enough, in my opinion, to be given a fair chance of being managed properly. They've had 3 managers, all of whom have been downbeat, and no central strategy to look after their development.

C’mon Martinez was a poor manager because he didn’t have the fundamental
intensity and desire to master all aspects of the game. He ignored set plays, defensive shape & teamwork plus fitness. Guardiola, like the British cycling team & Liverpool in the 70’s/80’s pays attention to every little detail. He takes absolutely nothing for granted, will pull a player for not working within a strict team ethic and will not settle for anything less than perfection. This is a world away from Martinez. We did the right thing sacking him, we just did completely the wrong thing when replacing him and appointing Walsh

At what point do we see the manager's boss giving him ideas, direction and management. Why did nobody ever tell Martinez to remove Denis Lawrence and probably Graeme whatshisname and the gk coach and actually work on defence, fitness and intensity. 11th places in 2 seasons was poor, but we didn't spend that much, and we did get to 2 SF - which is better than we've done in many other seasons.

I think it would've been better to give RM another chance but some feedback on what we want - intensity, defence and fitness - and we would be looking at a far better team today

Thankfully I had left the ground and did not witness anyone “clapping” City off.

Manchester flippin’ City ffs.

They were a Third Division side round about the turn of t’ century.

A chorus of boos directed at our own rotten, shambolic, once proud and ambitious institution would have been much more appropriate.

Sadly our spirit has been broken......no one can be bothered no moah.

If ever a first half performance warranted a cacophony of abuse it was yesterday.....yet there was barely a peep from inside the ground as those fraudsters trudged off to have a half time chat with their fat manager.

We are witnessing the slow, but now accelerating, death of EFC as we have known and loved it.

We are living in an era were the term “expected loss” has entered the lexicon and no effort is made to try and win certain matches.

Seems to me it is only a matter of time until the inevitable happens.....and we find ourselves in the Championship.

There was a very perspicacious article in the old When Skies Are Grey fanzine in the early 90s, just as the ennui which has now become a fast growing cancer was setting into our beloved club.

It took its title from this popular song of the era.

It has finally come to pass and we really are........

There may come a day when I will clap Real Madrid or Barcelona off’ve the pitch after they have just outclassed us.

But I will be darned if I ever clap Manchester City on a day when our miserable collection of miserable misfits stepped aside and made them look a whole heck of a lot better than what they actually are.

Agreed, spot on.

You can’t seriously be using that Guardiola team in the same breath as the Cleverley/Alcaraz/Kone inspired Martinez side, come on, April Fools is it lol

This is why need to go back to basics and bring in a young manager who has the potential to bring a new style of football, a manager who given the chance with a bit of cash and a bit of time can bring in talent that can help fast track our youth players.
That’s what we need, not another foreign ‘favourite of the month’ who’s won a subbuteo league or come 4th out of 4 in a big league.

The last thing we need is our yoot players getting fast tracked.

That United side had an average age of 26.

So whilst thunderbirds face was wrong in his comments, it was hardly a team of kids.
Playing Holgate, Kenny, Davies, Lookman, Baningime would represent no risk whatsoever. They all have experience in the PL, and someone like Dowell has a lot of game time in the Championship.

It isn't like we'd be throwing in academy players untested.

They are all very good young players and they need to be taken away from the hopeless bunch of defeatists and tankers of the senior players to show what they can do. Hopefully this summer will see those lads promoted to automatic starters and the old guard binned forever.

Would ANY of those players get a single minute at any of the teams "above us"?

You could say the same about Liverpool and Robertson, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold. Put them in with better experienced players and they are ok and learning their trade and progressing.
