City getting clapped off yesterday

There was a hasty retreat made back to Moyes era football at a time when Moyes era football has simply broken down as a model.
Tell that to Burnley. I'd like to see them trying to play posession based footy.
There's no way they'd occupy the same position if they did because their players simply aren't good enough to play that way successfully.

We all accept mediocrity, from the fan base to the owners to the manager to the pundits.

Rival fans think we’re pointless. Our own fans get carried away by signings like Schneiderlin and other dross from Man U (Rooney).

Until our whole approach and philosophy changes, we’ll always be a nothing club.

Sick of Everton, not even bothered anymore.
So sad I have to like this post, but it just sums up perfectly how I feel about everything about Everton at the moment.

Is this a tacit admission that when we got shut of Roberto the much sought after decision to go with brawn rather than brain; fitness over finesse; territory over possession was the wrong one to make?

Now I'm not equating RM's Everton with Guardiola's City (in fact, this has nothing much to do with either man but all to do with the chosen methodological route wanted by fans and provided in the last two FT managerial appointments).

Have we learned a harsh lesson here over the last two seasons? I think we have. There was a hasty retreat made back to Moyes era football at a time when Moyes era football has simply broken down as a model. I think we're lost as a club and we need some drastic surgery to at least put us back on the road to renewal. There's no going back to Moyes. There's no future in that. I just wonder whether yesterday's game and fan reaction to it will have given those in decision making positions pause for thought.
Methodological ? ??
Could be word of the day that

Nothing wrong with acknowledging a good team. My issue is that the same fans who clap city off aren’t bothered about showing their disapproval of the team, manager or board. Yesterday was a shameful performance from all involved yet it was just the same as usual from the fans, sit there in complete silence then politely clap at the end.

The great thing about football is how quickly things can change.

The appointment of a manager the fans believed in would change the mood overnight.

What we cannot expect however is a team that to challenge for a top four spot to be built almost immediately . That is difficult enough with unlimited resources but takes longer for everybody else.

The new manager is all important and I think it needs to be somebody who brings expectations( Emery) rather than hope(Silva).

I definitely think we're lost as a club. We simply have to define our identity (so long as it's a positive one) and plot a route back towards the top. If those in charge have any brains, they'll be doing this now, and sorting the appointments of those who can take us there.

We need experienced manager but someone who has a definite idea of what they want to do - even if its a disciple of 'the press'. There are plenty of them out there.

You just have to look in the Rooney thread with people still believing he will come good next season. We're going absolutely nowhere.

You can't really play Guardiola's way unless you have a billion dollar team, otherwise you end up like Roberto's Everton or worse a Bournemouth. In the highest leagues you get punished for your mistakes, even Guardiola's first year they were susceptible to mistakes. Yesterday the first half was a training drill for them, the gap was so far apart in just half a season of football, like Everton forgot how to play in six months. Sad.

I agree with you that Moyes' methods are passed their use by date though.

Everton are really caught in an egg or chicken first situation, that's the real dilemma for the club. They can't buy the best players even if they wanted to because they probably won't come unless we really had significant sums like 500m/600m or even more if you include the wages, a Neymar costs half of that already. Financial Fair Play rules would probably also not help Everton either, though PSG seemed to get around them quite easily.

Moshiri if he's serious needs to really open up the war chest, because as we've found out 200m doesn't mean squat. I'm interested to see if he means business this summer or if he's going to fold because he's been caught in a bluff.

Need a team that can compete. That first half was unacceptable for a top half team yesterday. Look at the game they were given by Wigan and Burnley, and there is no reason why we couldn't have put up a battle.

You keep on going back to the "we as a club want better like Martinez had shown us" route. It's not black and white mate. Martinez had no idea how to break down a team, he loved possession but had no idea what to do with it and he had no inclination or knowledge of how to set up a defensive unit.

He wasn't sacked because people wanted ugly football, he was sacked because he was incompetent at his job.
Mate, I didn't create the thread to get a proxy "Martinez woz ace" bun fight going. I just believe that yesterday's reaction by our fans to being schooled denotes an admission that we turned our backs unwisely on 'method/philosophy' and toward some clueless pragmatism that was always going to get us in trouble in this day and age. As said, the Moyes numb nuts era of football by sweat is gone. That was our mistake and continues to be our mistake if we dont learn from the last two apointments.
