City getting clapped off yesterday

Thankfully I had left the ground and did not witness anyone “clapping” City off.

Manchester flippin’ City ffs.

They were a Third Division side round about the turn of t’ century.

A chorus of boos directed at our own rotten, shambolic, once proud and ambitious institution would have been much more appropriate.

Sadly our spirit has been broken......no one can be bothered no moah.

If ever a first half performance warranted a cacophony of abuse it was yesterday.....yet there was barely a peep from inside the ground as those fraudsters trudged off to have a half time chat with their fat manager.

We are witnessing the slow, but now accelerating, death of EFC as we have known and loved it.

We are living in an era were the term “expected loss” has entered the lexicon and no effort is made to try and win certain matches.

Seems to me it is only a matter of time until the inevitable happens.....and we find ourselves in the Championship.

There was a very perspicacious article in the old When Skies Are Grey fanzine in the early 90s, just as the ennui which has now become a fast growing cancer was setting into our beloved club.

It took its title from this popular song of the era.

It has finally come to pass and we really are........

There may come a day when I will clap Real Madrid or Barcelona off’ve the pitch after they have just outclassed us.

But I will be darned if I ever clap Manchester City on a day when our miserable collection of miserable misfits stepped aside and made them look a whole heck of a lot better than what they actually are.

I think City getting clapped off yesterday was just a recognition of what good football should look like.
I'm really not a Martinez fan but we desperately need a manager with his type of ethos to come in and do a job. I really thought we were kicking on when Del boy scored against Arsenal on his debut in 2013 but the excrement hit the cooling device in the following two seasons. We need a new manager with a plan and a vision to come in and do a job.
How good would it be to see opposition fans clapping our players off the pitch

Tell that to Burnley. I'd like to see them trying to play posession based footy.
There's no way they'd occupy the same position if they did because their players simply aren't good enough to play that way successfully.

They've had a great season...and are 6 points ahead of us after us having a pathetic season.

Tells a tale.

Burnley are no template for anyone but themselves.

Mate, I didn't create the thread to get a proxy "Martinez woz ace" bun fight going. I just believe that yesterday's reaction by our fans to being schooled denotes an admission that we turned our backs unwisely on 'method/philosophy' and toward some clueless pragmatism that was always going to get us in trouble in this day and age. As said, the Moyes numb nuts era of football by sweat is gone. That was our mistake and continues to be our mistake.

Think you are reading way too much into it mate.

Nowt wrong with appreciating a terrific team or player. Remember Old Trafford applauding a Ream Madrid player who scored a hat trick against them when he was subbed. Remember Goodison staying pretty full when United were presented with the league trophy there not that long ago.

Anfield applauded Bristol City off after they beat them 0 1 years ago. Ashton Gate applauded the decent West Ham team of Brooking/Curbishly vintage in a cup game.

Dave, Martinez wan't sacked because of his football philosophy, because he wanted to attach or his possession based approach.

It was because he inherited a team that:

  • in Moyes's final season finished, 6th (one place above Liverpool), and 14 points ahead of 8th place West Brom
  • hadn't finished outside the top 8, for the previous 8 years
  • had one of the most solid defences in the league
and after a very positive first season, I really can't praise him enough for that, we had two consecutive 11th placed finishes.

To the contrary, I would say that it was because of his football philosophy, his attacking style, his generally positive attitude and his appreciation for the clubs history (school of science etc) that helped him cling on for so long. If you disagree, look at Koeman and soon to be Sam.

Would any other top 6 team (which we were when he was given the job) given him another season?

The mistake we made was in his successor, we threw the baby out with the bath water. Personally, I would have given the job to Pellegrini. With Koeman there was always a worry that we could get either Southampton Koeman or Benfica / Valencia Koeman.

Same ones clapping City are the same ones booing our own players lol couldn't make it up. Bunch of meffs. Who the hell claps the opposition after getting beat, oh wait... we do!
Have to say, nail on head here, this is probably closer to the truth than we'd all want it to be. We need a shake up mentally from the board room down to the support

...it’s all simply down to appointing the right manager. Unfortunately, finding the right manager is not in the least bit simple. Simple really.
Appointing the right manager is the final part of a process that starts with the club asking themselves where they want us to go as a club, how fast they want to get their, and what constitutes progress season in season out with respect to that destination.

You can't really play Guardiola's way unless you have a billion dollar team, otherwise you end up like Roberto's Everton or worse a Bournemouth. In the highest leagues you get punished for your mistakes, even Guardiola's first year they were susceptible to mistakes. Yesterday the first half was a training drill for them, the gap was so far apart in just half a season of football, like Everton forgot how to play in six months. Sad.

I agree with you that Moyes' methods are passed their use by date though.

Everton are really caught in an egg or chicken first situation, that's the real dilemma for the club. They can't buy the best players even if they wanted to because they probably won't come unless we really had significant sums like 500m/600m or even more if you include the wages, a Neymar costs half of that already. Financial Fair Play rules would probably also not help Everton either, though PSG seemed to get around them quite easily.

Moshiri if he's serious needs to really open up the war chest, because as we've found out 200m doesn't mean squat. I'm interested to see if he means business this summer or if he's going to fold because he's been caught in a bluff.
Totally disagree, Peps way of playing is the easiest way of playing football, something you get taught at a very early age PASS and MOVE!!! not 'kin Lump and jump!! 95% of their passes are 10 yard passes to men who have created a bit of space. Theirs no step overs or tricks or crazy mazy runs, just clever movement.
