Current Affairs China and its treatment of minorities

We just have to look to see how the Americans got their claws into South America to overthrow peaceful left-wing governments in order to install 'favourable' right-wing despots to ward of the communist 'threat'. Then we can look more recently at places in the Middle East, where the Obama administration initially gave finances and props to ISIS in order to cause anarchy in Syria. There is no doubt that the Americans have their claws in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and I'm just delighted that the CCP doesn't have its claws where it doesn't belong.

But you've underlined there my very point on criticising the CCP; if you condemn them, you have to be consistent and condemn the other superpower. Just as you had to in the previous Cold War between the US and Stalinism.

That's the line I take: neither Washington or Beijing. I'm glad that you've clarified that this is also your position. It should lead to less friction. Hopefully the others follow suit.

That works as long as neither side determines that you will be made to decide. Some old gammon of a Yank (looks in mirror) thinks that you'll be facing that decision sometime in the next few years.

I have no doubt that Johnson will make the UK into even more of a vassal state when he prostrates us in order to tie up trade deals with the US.

But that doesn't mean we as individuals have chosen that path, or that we cant continue to critique it.

tbh, I'm amazed any semblance of Hong Kong autonomy has lasted as long as it has.
The CCP don't take kindley to any form of dissent, be it, 1 person, a minority, an internal provence like HL or a Country like Taiwan, Australia or USA.
The amount of pressure they can bring to bear, usually depends on the clout of the receiving party, aka bullies.

re: Johnson. Absolutely. The deal should be wrapped up before year end.

re: critique. So far. Unless China wins. They're touchier than Trump, plus they have hella good 5G to keep track of lots of stuff and no tradition of free speech without consequences.

Decide whose vassal you shall be. That's what it's going to come down to.

I reject that last line. I dont choose it. I am not a nation state. I remain critical of each, just as I did with Washington and Moscow.

Famous quote circulating amongst Chinese citizen.

“Free speech is possible in China, but you can only do it once”

Among most chinese there is widespread thought that change has to happen but it needs to happen slowly.

I'm sure that most chinese would love to have a more vibrant democracy like Germany or the Nordic countries over their own. However there is a general fear that if the govt falls apart it will collapse into an even much worse olgiokleptocracy ala Brasil/philliphines or say the even the united states.

Philippines? Whats the correlation between Philippines and the other countries?

I’m not sure if most of them believe that mate. They recognise the need for change but change does not necessarily include removing ccp. With China leaping incredibly in terms of development and wealth, most believe ccp are doing the right thing:

With the great firewall limiting internet access and a controlled media, most of them were only fed with and believe party rhetorics.

The education is another problem. Similar to North Korea, design to be loyal and resent foreign influence, but at a milder level.

in general I don’t think a revolution will surface within China. The collapse of the economy might trigger unrest but it will never be organised enough to form a revolt due to the large intrusive surveillance program deployed countrywide.

Literally ZERO chinese people i know want any change at all...theyre proud of their party and leader and are 99% brainwashed.

Im a bit confused at why youve posted a Chinese party member claiming that the US is having the same issue as in HK?

far from the truth. 3 weeks ago one hk police did a knee to neck and killed a dark skin south Asian man in exact same manner.

nothing was done, no charges nothing.

This is the difference between a country with democratic value vs a country with non.

In the US they investigated used evidence and now the cop has been arrested on charges.

I would also imagine the US police wouldnt be raping, kidnapping, beating, shooting, suiciding black people on a daily basis in each city.

Imagine if that happened.

Its actually sad that these riots are happening in US as its distracting people from Hong Kong.
