Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Yes exactly. The moment they are gifted a title they haven't earned then Leeds, West Brom, Fulham and about a dozen other clubs open legal challenges for their right to be awarded PL status, as you have established the principle that somebody is capable of making judgements based upon an incomplete season. It's a massive headache.

When faced with that dilemma, of one club being gifted a trophy they haven't earned, versus 19 clubs being potentially liable for the litigation costs of such a decision, it's easy to see what conclusion is arrived at.

Only problem with this is: the PL are a separate functioning body from the EFL.

Yes thats true, but either the EFL may sue the PL, or individual teams, or both. They would have a very strong case. How could the PL say we don;'t recognise your champions, but we recognise our champions? If anything the separation makes it less likely.

On sky news now, their talking to Gerard Lyons who's is a former economical advisor to Boris Johnson and is now senior fellow for policy exchange has given his proposal to the government on how to unlock the lockdown and his policy has been given to senior members of the government

Its a traffic light system,
Red is small shops open, low risk shops
Amber private car journeys allowed and family visits
Green is mass activity like places of worship and football matches allowed

The time line he recommends for this is
Red phase on 4th may for 3 weeks
Amber 3 weeks to see if the virus has been kept under control
Green 15th June but still cautious behaviour like wearing masks

So if this ends up the plan this season is void but the prem can plan for the new season being started on time

I'd be amazed if we see 'mass activity' by mid June, not to mention the potential risk to players (viewed purely as financial assets).

Overly optimistic that for. Very optimistic actually for the final stage. But even mid june is far too late to start finishing the season.

I dont think we'll see another ball kicked this season. I dont think we should either. It's far more sensible to aim to restart a new season in mid September/early October or thereabouts.

Yeah i think it seems early but going by his timeframe, and its based on if the virus is under control and a lot of testing in the community, his idea is by mid to late June football could be played, obviously the player contract issue comes into play then

Forget the places of worship and the football grounds. When will the damn pubs reopen?

Will nobody think of the drinkers?

It does seem a pretty massive leap from "family car journeys to visit family" to 75000 at Old Trafford.
There's going to be a lot of risk vs. requirement calculations done over the next few months, schools will be the first to be considered as the social benefit of relieving parents will be huge, followed by industry/getting folk back into work then maybe retail. There is very little social need to balance against the risk of crowds of fans travelling to matches, watching in tight social spaces (how are you gonna manage turnstiles, queues outside etc) gathering after, traveling home. Plus all of the infrastrucutre around it (emergency services, TV crews, all the rest). Footy, spectator sports, gigs, festivals.... gonna be some of the last things to come back I think.

Whilst I am all in favour of folk getting their ability to earn money back asap, the Government should ask the delivery companies about the reality of shopping. The on line stuff has gone pure nuts.

In four years doing it, the busiest day I had was 130 drops. (Was cos someone was ill). Christmas would be circa 100 a day. DPDS, (salaried), circa 160 at Christmas.

Was asked to go back the other day, (cant), cos the lad doing my area is on 230. Folk are shopping and spending, just differently.

"I like the way Mr Snrub thinks...."

Seriously tho, won't happen - 15 June for Amber Phase perhaps. That said, in Aldo's world it will be...

Red Phase: Tying the asterisked red ribbons to the Premier League trophy
Amber Phase: Pouring the celebratory stella into a pint glass frosted with five stars and t'missus' blood.
Green Phase: Everyone gets sick from the subsequent bus parade. Chelsea's fault.
