Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

I too think today's announcement spells the end of the English league season.
Despite Shankly's hilarious 'life or death' quote, football is nothing in the grand scheme of things presently.
Only kopites and the Elland Road neanderthals will view it differently I reckon.
(31 years of hurt! Even if they are awarded the title, the entire footballing audience will know they never actually won it).

How can anyone be promoted with circa 30 points to play for? Void means it never happened.
Plus you can't simply pick and choose which parts are won and lost!
If you have champions, then you must have relegation.
If teams are awarded promotions, then teams must be relegated.
How can it be deemed that The Championship leaders get promoted, but the League One and League Two leaders stay put?
I'm afraid it's all or nothing. You just can't cherry pick what's right and what isn't. Do that and football will lose any shred of credibility that it has left.

Don't think it will be voided, it will be completed to honour TV and sponsorship deals.

Finish the season as it stands and award them the title. That will be a option and clubs will agree to it if money is involved.

The thing is, even if games were to be played behind closed doors and the RS win it, there’ll be no open-top bus parades that’s for sure. Any kind of mass gatherings will be banned until the autumn at the earliest I would imagine. So no worries, it’ll all be over and quickly forgotten
They'll probably get special permission to hold one

Easiest bluff to call ever. Familiarity and the same teams winning it every year would kill it as a spectacle. It doesn't fit any top sides brand to go years without winning anything either, which is what would happen when R Madrid and Barcelona invariably begin to dominate. Theyd go from having 2 major honours to compete for to 1 (domestic league and champs league to just the Super League).

Even a secondary tournament like a super league cup would be viewed like the Fa Cup pretty quickly.

But... I agree it's a really good idea!
People calling for this always expect to be the winners of a 12 team league. None of them will finish bottom

the move into the Amber phase will be a nervous one, if the death figures bounce back up, we go back into lockdown, the best hope is that the figures stay static for a few weeks/months to allow the economy to start up again, the NHS to cope with the numbers coming through the doors, and more time for a vaccine/medication to be found. Then we move to the green phase, We'll be lucky to see attended footy batches by September

This really is a crisis of such monumental proportions for football, the implications of which aren't even beginning to be understood.

Beneath the top flight so many clubs are now under threat (as many as 50 could fold in some scenarios) and in all the leagues hugely drawn out and ludicrously expensive legal minefields abound whichever decision(s) are made..

Top clubs stand to have their whole financial foundations so badly shaken that any budgeting transfers and planning are in the bin, no crowds (at best) until possibly 2021 means a vastly inferior product which in turn means no season ticket sales, vastly reduced TV rights income from Sky, BT and worldwide tv. No certainty on dates, contracts, new season start times or length and likely transfer windows.

So uncertain vastly reduced income for a massively devalued product that might start some time in the future with an uncertain number of clubs who may or may not have the same or different players.

(That's without mentioning European competitions whose future looks doubtful too)

This is the biggest crisis since having to survive with only war time football and guest players throughout the second world war and is worse than the European ban in the late 1980s.

Sounds a mess because it is a mess,

I think that but the top 2 from the championship promoted and no-one relegated.

5 to be relegated next season.

No league cup next season

Cue the lawsuits from Fulham etc in the playoff positions, who are within a few points off a £100 mill windfall if promoted

Then who goes up from League 1? Look at the table, there would be murder - 6 teams who are 3 points off automatic promotiom

Once you make one small decision, it has a ripple effect that could descend into chaos. If Liverpool had already mathematically won it then you could possibly make a case. But as it stands across the PL to L2, not one promotion or relegation is mathematically already decided.

Season is either finished or its void.

Anyway this talk of law suits and solicitors, I dont think the smaller clubs can afford to do that, or risk doing that. Not just because of the money but the time, these big cases can drag a few years, with another season only a few months away there isnt time.
Willing to guess what ever the call is the clubs will just have to take it on the chin

The PL relegated teams are the big worry, they will have the resources to do that. I also think the clubs at the top of the championship will, if they try to pull a fast one and dont void an incomplete season.
