Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Not sure that what happens with the title in the premier league would legally affect what happens with the title in the championship as the premier league and football league are seperately run.

Of course relegation is a different matter altogether.

It is linked. The moment you start awarding titles and saying the season has some validity, Leeds are going to say if it's a legitimate season who gets relegated?

If you hold to the view that a cancelled season is voided you avoid this.

You wont be able to void some bits and not void other bits. Not without significant legal challenge.

Think I read the Prem League are meeting tomorrow. Prob waiting for this lockdown being announced, they now know how difficult it will be to restart and finish this season
Waiting for "it was unanimously agreed that no teams shall be relegated from the Premier League, while the Football Association has taken the unprecedented step of awarding the league title to Liverpool given their substantial points advantage".

You can’t make a decision at 1 end and not at the other though hence why the PL is very lucky not one thing is settled, it makes it easy for them.

I’m just surprised that people can’t seem to grasp how this is going to play out, even people in the press etc. For me there is no real alternative to null and void, it’s by far the simplest and cheesiest option.

IMO I think senior officials at every PL club know that’s the way it’s going to end, it’s a no brainier for virtually every club bar Liverpool.

I think even United would give up CL footy and take the hit to ensure there biggest rivals in terms of global fan base and marketing stay at 30 years plus without a title.

It's also why LFC outriders have spent all their time trying to get the league played, seemingly at any human cost. They know you cant go handing out titles unless you can resolve the relegation.

Lockdown 3 more weeks, let's say 7th of May they can train again, to get fit 2 weeks, at a push first games on the 30th of May, it's too much too soon, cant happen
Asked by the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg about when the public can see the end of this, Dominic Raab refers to comments made by the prime minister at the beginning of the outbreak, saying this stage should last for three months.

Looks like maybe 3 weeks every 3 weeks for a little bit for this to end ?

I mean, they can do whatever they want, it's their League at the end of the day

The media will be on board with it and will go into overdrive pushing it as a good idea

I doubt many of those Championship clubs will sue, if any

Ok. I'll try to out it into more legal jargon.

If you cancel a season, the default position is void. It is that results dont count. This is your defence of then not having relegation.

If you then re-open the case, and start giving value to the season, and move from the results being invalid, sides are going to say if you can do it for 1st place, why cant you do it for 18th, 19th and 20th? Either the season is valid, or it's not.

As for the point re championship points, I mean this politely, but you are really mistaken if they wouldn't challenge it. Leeds will be going bust if they dont get up. They will have an open goal case, would be be due hundreds of millions of pounds in TV revenues. They would legitimately ask how are Liverpool champions anymore than they are champions? And if they are champions, they are due to be promoted.

So yes, they can do what they want. However, legal advice would be, the moment they move from a cancelled season is invalid, they are massively exposed to litigation ranging into the hundreds of millions (per club).

I remember these discussions re contracts and June 30th weeks ago. People also said then "football can do what it wants" and "there would be no legal consequences". They cant, and if they do, there will be enormous legal ramifications.

And 3 months takes us to mid June. Todays the day the football season ended.

My view is that R Madrid and Barcelona both like the 1 in 2 chance of La Liga, Juve, PSG and Bayern like their annual domestic title. England is a little different perhaps, but even here City have enjoyed a period of sustained dominance. A super league means less trophies... You're familiar with '6 tiiimeeess', all these clubs need glory, I don't see how league with say 16 teams in, no relegation (at least not at first or Celtic may as well just forget it) and just one major trophy will ultimately last.

I think a super league would strengthen European sides more so than English ones too, who would lose TV revenue advantage to an extent.

Doesn’t matter to me either way, I would watch Everton if we were in league 2, the likes of LFC and Man United not being involved in our league would make it 10x better, I would happily finish 17th every year in the league left over when they left than play in the one we currently do.

Them clubs, social media and the toxic pricks that support and follow them are all a stain
