Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

For me the only realistic option for the entire English leagues is to void the season.
Not one team has already won its league and not one team, including Bolton, has already been relegated.
We all know how bizarre football can be when it comes to teams going on miracle runs or, conversely, going into freefall.
There will be far more winners than losers if we just forget this season and start a fresh one at a suitable time.
Any cup competition now seems irrelevant too.
As for European qualification, I genuinely couldn't give a flying one.

No point rushing anything, I hardly see this virus sticking until August. Just restart everything then. Why ruin multiple seasons when you can just ruin one?
You can’t make a decision at 1 end and not at the other though hence why the PL is very lucky not one thing is settled, it makes it easy for them.

I’m just surprised that people can’t seem to grasp how this is going to play out, even people in the press etc. For me there is no real alternative to null and void, it’s by far the simplest and cheesiest option.

IMO I think senior officials at every PL club know that’s the way it’s going to end, it’s a no brainier for virtually every club bar Liverpool.

I think even United would give up CL footy and take the hit to ensure there biggest rivals in terms of global fan base and marketing stay at 30 years plus without a title.

Agree, and it's not like there's stiltons of time left to make a decision.

Easiest bluff to call ever. Familiarity and the same teams winning it every year would kill it as a spectacle. It doesn't fit any top sides brand to go years without winning anything either, which is what would happen when R Madrid and Barcelona invariably begin to dominate. Theyd go from having 2 major honours to compete for to 1 (domestic league and champs league to just the Super League).

Even a secondary tournament like a super league cup would be viewed like the Fa Cup pretty quickly.

But... I agree it's a really good idea!
I've seen a few people write this, I just don't get it. The CL has the same teams winning, the epl has the same teams winning, la liga has the same teams winning. Viewing figures are as strong as ever. Why would people suddenly stop watching rs or man utd because they are playing against Barcelona or Juventus instead of Burnley or Southampton? It just doesn't make sense to me

Whisperings of the them pushing for a European super league if they don’t get handled the title.

Best idea I’ve ever heard in my life.

Haven't they lost most of the away games in Europe because the refs aren't crooked? They'd soon get fed up of that.

Would love this, although travelling around Europe from country to country is a good idea right now

BBC website today has Wilder saying the opposite. He thinks that for the 'integrity of the competition and competitions, especially near the top end..........they'll want to finish the season. I believe there will be an ability next year to adjust...............we have the ability through organisation and planning to finish the season off'.

Understandable from his perspective given this must be Sheff Utd's potential highest finish for 20? 30? odd years. I would not expect him or Sheff Utd to fall into the void camp.

Yes, I had read that myself which was why I counted Blades among the three teams I think would be in favour of keepig this moribund season alive.

You might get Leicester too. I think you are pushing it really though, especially with Sheffield United. They could probably be bought off with being paid the 9th biggest amount from the TV deal, and knowing they need the next payment as their wages are much higher than their existing revenues.

I say Blades because their manager is quoted on the BBC website today as wanting the season to finish.

My view is that R Madrid and Barcelona both like the 1 in 2 chance of La Liga, Juve, PSG and Bayern like their annual domestic title. England is a little different perhaps, but even here City have enjoyed a period of sustained dominance. A super league means less trophies... You're familiar with '6 tiiimeeess', all these clubs need glory, I don't see how league with say 16 teams in, no relegation (at least not at first or Celtic may as well just forget it) and just one major trophy will ultimately last.

I think a super league would strengthen European sides more so than English ones too, who would lose TV revenue advantage to an extent.
