Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Or UEFA and the 'G7' clubs could go full, blatant 'phuck you' and play all the chosen teams - Utd, RS, Barca, Real, Juve etc, regardless.

Can’t see it.

I don’t even think there will be domestic football next season, never mind some form of European football.

No way gathererings in the tens of thousands are going to be permitted until some kind of a lid is put on this....a vaccine or sommat.

And all this “behind closed doors” stuff is just hot air. It ain’t an attractive proposition, would give false results and would very quickly lose any novelty value it might have had after a couple of soulless televised games.

And that is before the issue of medical cover and the impossibility of social distancing for the players is addressed.

The city of Los Angeles has already banned all concerts and sporting events until 2021 at the earliest.

I think that will become a widespread policy in the western world in the coming months and perhaps years as we await a mass produceable vaccine.

Partick Thistle relegated despite having a match in hand, which if they had won would have taken them out of the relegation zone.

Scandalous decision not to just void these leagues. In a way a part of me wants titles handed out so I can finally get football out of my life. It's an utter cesspit. This will be the straw that breaks it for me. As said above there will be huge risks just awarding them the title or streaming it, so just void it.

that surely opens them up to some sort of lawsuit?

So 14 teams would need to agree to complete the season.

So who wont agree?

Well presumably the 9 clubs raising concerns already at the end of season going beyond 30th June. Add in the 6 of the bottom sides who can void and avoid relegation. I don't know how many overlap, but you'd imagine that is between 9 to 15 teams who have clear incentive to want to bi the season.

The real question is which 14 teams are going to want to continue it. It's mainly just 1 team.

I think both are true. UEFA are going to desperately want to play the CL next season. If you cancel a 2nd CL I don't know about the financial sustainability of the organisation.

You also factor in, that 100+ million TV prize money, plus gate receipts, plus lucrative sponsorship deals on the basis of playing in it will all be disappearing for the top teams .

In a purely Everton perspective, Europe being cancelled next season, while the PL can go ahead and this seasons TV money gets paid would be a very good scenario. You might see some of the traditional top 6 being in quite acute financial difficulties without Europe and the wage commitments they have.

The RS obviously.

Manchester United because they feel they can get a CL place.

And Sheffield United.

I imagine the other 17 would happily bring the curtain down right now.

You might get Leicester too. I think you are pushing it really though, especially with Sheffield United. They could probably be bought off with being paid the 9th biggest amount from the TV deal, and knowing they need the next payment as their wages are much higher than their existing revenues.

When it comes to the PL it will do. I don't know if Partick would be able to afford a lawyer (and I don't mean that flippantly). PL clubs will have legal teams waiting.

It's a minefield legally for the premier league and championship.

No option including increasing the size of the premier league for a season is without fairly obvious pitfalls, any solution would be challenged and unsustainable - it may have to be unanimous and turkeys won't vote for Christmas so self interest will rule over common sense, but realistically when it eventually resumes, be it October even, no crowds will be an ever present no matter what for some time to come even next season.

Then there's the issue of tv rights for a hugely devalued product and clubs budgeting for revenue they've now no hope of getting next season.
