Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Partick Thistle are initially sought legal advice for their relegation from the Scottish Sunday League Premiership, but have since dropped it because they realised it's only Scottish football and is essentially meaningless.

Can you imagine the legal minefield that will absolutely emerge if Premier League teams are automatically relegated? Much, much more is at stake for them financially and they have the resources to fight it. The Premier League season should be voided.

nah, I'd quite like the PL to do something daft and then get dragged through the courts, lots of dirty linen washed in public and these things take time that will conflict with the planning of seasons. It will be a holy mess. Bring it on, it cold be fun.

Alongside the potential wrecking ball of City vs UEFA, could be popcorn time. The PL could probably do a deal with Sky TV to recuperate some of the money that might go missing between this season and next.

I think preventing Fulham and one or two other teams from hitting the Premier League jackpot which is meant to be around £170 mill (including parachute payments should they go back down) will also be a huge legal wrangle. Fulham are not just going to let that go.

Its ok saying they done this in the Scottish, Danish or even La Liga leagues - every signle one of them leagues pales in comparison to the money in the PL. Plus in La Liga, most of the money goes to the big clubs anyway due to the way their TV revenue is set up.

There is no league in the world that you can compare to the PL, so its pointless looking at what other leagues have done.

Fulham and other Championship clubs have no case whatsoever if the season is null and voided without any decisions being made due to an act of force majeure.

Sky and the Premier League are basically the same company considering how mutually-beneficial their arrangements are. They are both crucial to each other's fortunes. They won't go up against each other, it wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.

The most sensical thing to do is void the season. That resets everything and no one can say they missed out because in effect, it won't exist.

If that causes financial difficulties further down the professional pyramid, then it is up to the FA to step in and provide crucial support.

Agree. Im talking about the scenrio that is one of the options being discussed if the season is void - which is Liverpool are handed the league and Leeds/WBA are promoted with no relagation.

People just act like there is only the PL to consider - there are 3 other professional leagues under the PL.

Which is why im saying its competed or void with no titles/promotions/relegations.

Cue the lawsuits from Fulham etc in the playoff positions, who are within a few points off a £100 mill windfall if promoted

Then who goes up from League 1? Look at the table, there would be murder - 6 teams who are 3 points off automatic promotiom

Once you make one small decision, it has a ripple effect that could descend into chaos. If Liverpool had already mathematically won it then you could possibly make a case. But as it stands across the PL to L2, not one promotion or relegation is mathematically already decided.

Season is either finished or its void.

Correct. There are a raft of legal ramifications...Not just for those that get promoted or relegated which will be a bloodbath, but what happens if a players catches the coronavirus off another player, passes it to his family ....it’s an absolute minefield. The Sky/Bt payments are not an issue, just let them have more televised games over the next two years. The only sensible course of action is to void the season...so obviously they won’t do that.......

Fulham are nowhere near sealing their return back to the PL. Legally they’d not have a leg to stand on if the league was voided.

Dead productive meeting that then.
I read of a split between the 'big 6' wanting to play out at all costs to get their revenues and many others wanting to put an end to it by 30 June. On the surface you'd expect the 'smaller' clubs to be more vulnerable to losses caused by any cancellation but it's clear that the business models of those with the largest revenues are if anything more sensitive due to the high level of wages (and debt in many cases) they have that needs that revenue.

What is clear is the unhealthy nature of the PL whereby certain clubs have significant influence over the running and decision-making (such as veto's over key executive positions) which makes the idea of 'integrity of the competition' a complete joke. That article mentions some clubs where expecting to discuss 30 June today but it did not even come up - you have to wonder who controls the agenda of these meetings of 20 'equal' partners in the league.

Im sure they would if Leeds and WBA were given auto promotion - 6 points behind WBA with 9 or 10 games left?

They may not win a case but ypu can guarantee they will challenge missing out on £140mill.
