Black Saturday

Again wasn't Holgate injured most of or at least the latter part of the pre season, this is Everton you know. It's only certain teams, ( not far away ) that can play an unchanged team three games in a row.
Players being injured , new to each other , not match fit , not up to speed on managers tactics , should have no bearing on their selection for a PL away fixture , or so I’m been led to believe

The manager has seen this
That’s why he signed Mina Zouma and Digne
How do you find it so hard to understand
A) You cannot put 3 players who have never played together and barely trained together straight into a PL fixture
B) Even if you could do this the players are not match fit yet or up to speed with Silvas tactics
I can guarantee you the team in November ( barring injuries / suspensions ) will bear no resemblance to the 3 teams Silva has picked so far
Not saying it’ll take that long but they will need time to bed on
He could have put in Digne and Holgate. There is no excuse. I hope he's learned from his two massive mistakes thus far.

As disappointing as this result was, there is clear promise in the team and I am far more optimistic about us after this draw at the vitality than I was when we drew 3-3 here. Silva is far more switched on than Martinez when it comes to defensive frailties so the individual errors committed by Jagielka and Baines will likely see them axed from the squad as soon as their replacements are ready to come in.

We have shown a lot of nous and spirit in our two away games so far as well, it is very difficult being down to 10 men in this league yet we have coped with it extremely well.

Far more reasons for optimism than negativity from our 3 games so far, hopefully against Rotherham and Huddersfield we can really start to show our best form.

Still cant believe we have a thread called Black Saturday for an away draw.

Cant wait to see what the thread will be called when we suffer our first defeat.
Bizarre isn't it?

I mean, I'm as annoyed as anyone that we didn't win yesterday, but is Dave genuinely forgetting last season already? it was that bad that we may as well have not watched any away games full stop..

I’d honestly rather just get outclassed and beaten than suffer the sort of games like Wolves and Bournemouth. I’m sick of having more ‘Everton that’ moments in one game than some clubs have in a whole season. Least a bad loss you can just move past quickly. We have a constant feeling of knowing we could do something decent in this league yet continuously undermine ourselves with the most ridiculous blend of bad luck, poor refereeing, and personal stupidity.

Wow. So you enjoyed last season more? You'd prefer to see that beating we took at Southampton rather than the Wolves game? Or a mauling from the RS?

You know that "Everton that..." feeling? There's probably around 15-19 clubs every season who have that feeling of what could have been if only it weren't for luck, refs and stupidity. Remember when Spurs were a bit....spursy. Remember when the Sky big 6 all slipped up and let Leicester win the league? Citeh being absolutely terrible over 2 legs in the CL against the RS? Or Karius having a mare of a CL final? Yeah - Everton that!

Sodden bedsheets over a 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth in the new manager's third competitive fixture.

Hang on, what? You’re going to have to clarify this further because I’m not following.

Haha, really quite over-the-top this...

Do you honestly never get the feeling that you’re watching the same tragic story with Everton? It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as well. Even at 2-0 up 10 v 10 there was a feeling we somehow wouldn’t come away with 3 points just like there was in the Wolves game. That feeling will only be strengthened further now. I’d rather we’d just won one of them like we should have and been beaten normally in the other one. We’d have more points for a start and less of the feeling that we will always find a way to mess anything good up at Everton.

In fairness mate, you're contradicting yourself there. Surely bad luck and poor refereeing are outside of our control. Personal stupidity, or even just simple mistakes, I can agree with.

But the thing for me is it's been frustrating rather than disheartening. I'd rather be in a position where we are unbeaten on 5 points knowing than we could, and possibly should have taken all 9, than thinking thank God, we were lucky to get away with that one. Which, lets be honest, was exactly the position we were in last season.

I’m not saying it’s not better than last year, that was a complete aberration. This feels like Moyes and Martinez all over again though. When Everton have an opportunity to do something good we seem to find amazingly different ways to ensure it doesn’t happen.

A lot of the bottom 13 teams are just poor. When the top 6 play well they usually win (even when they don’t play well they usually win). We’re in this bizarre position that maybe only Spurs have been in too where we have been good enough to do stuff but seem to be held back by this really annoying propensity to shoot our selves in the foot. If we finish outside the top 6 this season we’ll look at the points gap and I bet we’ll easily be able to say that we could have bridges it if it hadn’t of been for a few key games that we Evertoned up. That’s why is just rather be outclassed sometimes. Like let season, at least every man and his dog knew we just weren’t good enough. It sucks but you can move past it. Knowing we’re stopping ourselves from getting what we want is far far more annoying.

Yes last season was a season of being disheartened. Now we have seeds planted and buds coming through. There is a definite progress with our style of play that has given the majority of us hope again. Last season was despair with no hope in sight. Give us Evertonians a glimmer of hope to hang onto and you will get a happy Evertonian. Hope is all we have and I think it is there in abundance this season.
