Far too many John Merros in our support. Any kid that plays one decent game is hyped up beyond belief. Is it any wonder lots feel the pressure and flop. Golden generation I keep hearing. Tone it down lads and let kids develop. Stop declaring them the next Makalele etc on one game. Chill.

He can hardly be said to have proven any points after one game.

Kenny was excellent at home to Norwich last season but has looked woefully short since.

Calvert - Lewin, don't get me started

After a very bright start Dowell has been in and out of form for Forest

Walsh and Williams, who knows really.

No points have been proven - yet.
The only recent player who has been as good as Beni Baningime is Tom Davies. The rest have played well at times but you can see there's a difference in class between those two and the rest.

I may be wrong and you are free to correct me if I am.

Depends who the "rest" are mate. Do we include Dowell? Holgate? Calvert Lewin? Has Tom Davies even been that good this season? Lookman, who for me is clearly the most gifted of the lot

They are all youngsters. At this stage, they need to just get games and develop in their own ways. if they come on then we can potentially eject some deadwood for free. If they didn't work out there is no big loss.

Kenny was excellent at home to Norwich last season but has looked woefully short since. ~ ?. Possibly the best player at the U20 WC. Has only gotten 2 starts this season and has looked anything but "woeful".

Calvert - Lewin, don't get me started ~ Literally don't know what you're on about here.

After a very bright start Dowell has been in and out of form for Forest ~ You must not be paying attention, he was extremely influential in their most recent win.

Walsh and Williams, who knows really. ~ Williams is impressing on loan, and Walsh might actually be the most talented of them all. But he needs a chance to find out.

Listen if we're not going to challenge for the top four - which we aren't at this point - wouldn't you rather let our Golden Generation (Beni, Kenny, Davies, Dowell, Walsh, Williams etc) come into the team and actually create a foundation for a strong future with rock solid (and talented) Blues? Rather than bringing in continental or "seasoned" players who don't actually help us win stuff and potentially block the path for the ones we've already got? Yes we should be going for as good a striker as we can buy because we don't have of those laying around FF, but for chrissake, we're loaded with talented midfielders already. And yes, we need a left footed defender who ideally can play centrally or at LB for the time being, but if we buy one more damned midfielder I'm going to scream.

I'm not saying they all end up as England internationals but some of them will I believe, and at worst they become reliable, dedicated, and serviceable squad players. What is the actual point of having player that costs a fortune and almost never play?

Beni proved a larger point last night I believe.
What amuses me is how much value people place on being or becoming an England international. England have produced about 2 decent teams and 1 good team since the war. They are a mid range team. I know we recently won some kiddies World Cup, but that doesn’t disguise the fact that the country that invented football ain’t that good at it, ( bit like industry)
Our youngsters may mature into top players, but being in the Inguurlund set up is no guarantee or good yardstick to judge.

I completely agree, but I've had people tell me that we should only have International players in our squad, not just the team the squad. Which to me is patently ridiculous when the likes of Southgate are picking the squad.

WOW, really Tim? That's a bit much isn't it? Where do you keep hearing that?

I saw it mentioned on the previous page of this thread. I've saw it mentioned by numerous people on here and twitter for the past 18 months. Golden generations produce world class players. We produce lots of decent players but there's never any game changers.

But that's the U20 world cup, it's a massive, often insurmountable step to the senior level. DCL looks like a god there and yet he is hopeless for us.

Dowell - as I rightly say - has been in and out of form. Good in last game doesn't mean, shockingly, solid form over the season. It's been up and down. He will make it though.

Kenny hasn't been good and was given a rough old time last night when Batshauyi drifted left.

Williams and Walsh, again, not playing at a level we can accurately judge them.

To describe them as "the future" isn't just jumping the gun, it goes against historical precedent. Most of them won't make it.

I don't think anyone is being serious. Chill.

And to declare them "not the future" without actually giving them a chance at this level is equally foolhardy.

Why? It means that someone considers them as one of the best 20 odd England players for their respective age group. The fact that manager after manager for years hasnt been able to deliver a bit more success than the senior team has "achieved" is as much to do with the utter shambles of English managers than the shortage of decent players.

But the current crop of English players is a bit crap, granted.
