JLW

Player Valuation: £70m
A massive overhaul is needed and will probably happen due to contracts expiring and lack of quality.

Who would you be happy with in the starting 11 for the first game next season?

For me:

Pickford
Myko
Branthwaite
Gana
Ndiaye
JOB

Squad players

Garner
Tarks
McNeil
Chermiti
Iroegbunam

I wouldnt sign any of the loan players we currently have or even renew their loan for next season.

….Doucoure.

…I have no views on such things because we have no idea on what playing strategy Moyes has in mind for next season.

You’d be quite certain he’d want the established goalkeeper and CBs but beyond that, it all depends on how he wants to set the team up. I doubt it’ll include Doucoure even though he’s vital to the current team.

Pickford
Branthwaite
O’Brien
Gana
N’Diaye
Alcaraz
Tarkowski
Garner

Ideally I’d want Tarkowski and Garner phased out too, but I doubt we’re signing 5 players all of a starting quality so I’d be happy with them both starting too.

For me the key positions to upgrade straight away are:

CF
RW
LB
CAM (if don’t sign Alcaraz)

I think we need to improve all areas, but it won’t be done in one window. Not realistic, and I’m also not sure it’s a good strategy.

I’d be content with Branthwaite and Tarkowsi at CB with O’Brien at RB, but signing someone like KWP, Lamptey or Coufal on a bosman as cover, if it meant big funds went on a striker, right winger and left back. Then the following summer we look at a real quality prospect there to come into the side.

similarly I’d be happy to go with Garner and Gana as first choice CMs for now, and signing one or two young players that could step into their positions in a year or so, such as Chris Rigg, Dan Neil, or some unknown tyro from Ligue One

I’m hoping Alcaraz gets more of a chance now the really tough run of fixtures is done, I think he could be a real steal and be a huge improvement on Doucoure

I think anyone expecting us to sign 6 or 7 players that go straight into our team is a bit naive. We also need to either spend transfer fees, loan fees and signing on bonuses to players who will need to replace squad players like Keane, Coleman, Mangala etc

Deffo In

Pickford
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Gueye
Ndiaye

Deffo Out

Keane
Calvert-Lewin (I actually quite like DCL but he needs to move on as once your card is marked that's it for you as a player here)
Harrison
Lindstrom (Both have done OKish for loan players but we won't be buying them and can probably do better with new loanees)

Anyone else can stay or go, they are fine as we need a squad but I wouldn't shed any tears if they went either.

Beto

In terms of those out of contract, I wouldn't re-sign any of them given their age and likely resale value but I would make an exception for Doucs if that is how Moyes wants to play and because of all the times he turned up with a vital goal, but it would have to be a good deal for the club. Gana has been ok this season but we really need to get out of the mindset that being ok justifies a new contract, plus he is obviously at the "old" point now.

In terms of the loanees, it would really depend on what happens with them at their parent clubs. Harrison hasn't worked and so should go back to Leeds; Broja and Mangala were too injured and I doubt we'd benefit from signing either, and for all the hype I really don't see that much justifying us paying real money for Alcaraz.

The one exception to the "don't sign any of them" I would look at is Lindstrom - under Moyes we looked and achieved better results with him playing, and his apparent failure would probably mean he might be available cheap.
