Arsenal v Everton
11 shots v 12
5 on target v 4

Not too much of a stretch to think in a highlights show like that with 2 games for the whole program... They could of fitted in a fairly even amount from that regardless of the quality of our chances.

Correct.

They showed a fair amount of the good chances, fact is Arsenal had more than we did. It is a highlights programme.

Thought of this forum when I watched the opening bit with the writing...
Arsenal .. Consistency and domination
Everton Shrewd and over achievement

You would of thought they could of come up with something a little better than that wouldn't you?

Ha, saw that.

Then they called us 'tenacious' at the end. Not really, just good.

A few observations:

1) Ross Barkley - Wow !!!

2) McCarthy/Barry tandem - Wow !!!

3) Pienaar - Great match

4) Lukaku - A bit subdued but credit Mertesacker. Best I've seen a CB play against him this season.

5) Osman - That ball to Mirallas !!! Sublime.

6) Everton as a whole - No fear at all and took the match to them. Total domination the first 20 minutes plus.

7) Deulofeu - What a goal !!!

8) Coleman/Oviedo - Massively involved getting forward.

9) Howard - Could be having his best year ever for Everton.

In short, that was the best I've ever seen Everton play in my 14 years of supporting them. Roberto Martinez is one hell of a manager. Let's see if we can not only hold on to him, Barkley, & Baines, but get Lukaku, Barry, and Deulofeu to sign on for another year.

You wanna talk about top four or title contenders, YOU MUST include Everton in those conversations after that performance. You must.
Agreed on all points.

Howard is enjoying a genuine renaissance, might possibly be the best he's ever played, even his dreaded kicking is so, so much improved. Credit Inaki Bergara?

I must say, 2 points about the media coverage.

a ) it really doesn't make much difference. Some aren't giving us much credit, others saying we're boss.
b ) people are reading far too much into it.

Another remarkable performance today. Top 4 looking eminently achievable as long as we don't cock up against the lesser teams and can keep free from injuries. Keep trying to keep my hopes in check but struggling - Martinez has been a fantastic appointment. Wasn't 100% convinced when we got him but my God has he got us playing well.

There are so many reasons to be positive currently. I think the highlight of them all is the mentality of our midfield. I will hold my hands up in the air and say it looks like I was wrong about Barry, who I did not rate whatsoever when we got him. He's been boss. Barkley is a revelation and Deulofeu and Mirallas both offer really exciting options from wide areas. McCarthy is also growing in recent weeks, while Pienaar and Osman feel like happy constants. We have a midfield who all want to get on the ball, pass it, create chances, move the opposition about. And with Deulofeu, Mirallas and Barkley, we have genuine pace and directness in the side, something we've lacked for a long time.

Interesting as well that this last week - Stoke, Man Utd, Arsenal - haven't especially seen Lukaku (who there was rumblings was simply carrying us) on top form - albeit he has done his job well, held the ball up etc; and also has been without the man who many have called our best and even most influential player - Baines.

This is probably setting us up for a shock defeat next week but who cares, this is the best I've seen us play for as long as I can remember and it's so refreshing to watch. Simply enjoying watching us play. Let's take it a step at a time and see where we go this season.
