Well. What a crap show that was earlier. A hugely rage fuelling start to 2026 via an awful home defeat to the mighty Brentford. Who in fairness have unearthed a dangerous forward and wanted it more. Not least showing some quality.

Onwards, but will it be upwards or downwards? The, very swiftly upon us, opportunity to get over this game comes in the form of bottom of the table Wolves. Whose first win (in all competitions) came against us in the cup. They've just won a Premier league game, so hopefully that hoodoo of Everton bending over and offering refuge to those in need is out of the way.

Wolves are a team supported by some of the biggest cry arses you'll ever meet. Their fans are honestly nuts. I used to share an office with Wolves fan and a West Brom fan. Said West Brom fan used to walk around urging folk to 'slap a Dingle'. So called because of their apparebt scruffy appearance and simple ways. I dunno, parochial footy fueds, huh?

Anyway, this is what I want Moyes and Everton to, metaphorically, do on Wednesday. Slap those Dingles and slap them hard. Get this defeat out of our collective system and move on. No embarrassing home capitulation please.

Much depends on who Moyes plays and if he selects the right blend. There's a train of thought Dibling is being hung out to dry and we'd look more threatening with Patterson behind him. Its a point of debate, but at the bare minimum he needs to get whoever plays fighting and winning their battles. Today we rarely did that.

Coyb, slap a Dingle (or 11).

If you're looking for excuses to explain away not beating the worst team in the league - and one of the worst top-flight teams ever - then you're in the same boat as Nuno.

I think we'll win this because we have to. It's a matter of credibility. With Europe - always a fanciful notion - now gone via the league, in all likelihood - the next week takes on huge significance. The cup game next week is pivotal.

They beat us in the cup though
