Current Affairs Anti-fascists (antifa), and a nationwide resistance of hate.

Clearly in a civilised society organised violence of any description is going to be criticised and that’s perfectly reasonable but those that opposed the black shirts in places like cable street are generally applauded, daily mail aside . Let’s face it Most people were fairly happy to see the fascists chased back into left luggage at lime street.

Of course there is a place for peaceful protest but like many here I’m not going to be hypocritical and pretend I’d shed a tear if somebody who espouses race purity rhetoric takes a right hander.

First, they punch Richard Spencer and I said nothing.
Then they punch Milo and I still said nothing.
Then they punch Jordan Peterson and I remained silent.
Then they punched dholliday and I laughed a little.
But then they punched my face and there was no one left to defend me.

Can we all just pause for a minute to admire this?

shouting "fascist!" at non-fascist people because you disagree with their views is playing identity politics: defining the other by their perceived group-belonging. i agree both sides play that game in different ways.

Sick to death of you and others pinning 'idendity politics' on the left when it's clearly a right wing diversion to exactly what those scumbags have been doing for centuries.

People are people. Weird nationalities and races seem to be your problem.

They aren't, though.

The rise of Trump (and the attitudes behind Brexit here) is down to the media and political parties repeating over a period of some years the same demands for the things that far right groups traditionally agitate for. How long has the Mail and that other rag been going on about immigrants or about the feral underclass class? How often have they lauded political leaders as strong or powerful for taking military action as opposed to discussion? How many times have they praised business leaders for making money (irrespective of how sustainable that is) whilst attacking (for instance) unions for trying to prevent things that cost us all a lot of money further down the line? How many lies did they peddle - or at best allowed to go unchallenged - from the politicians they favoured, even when those lies were easily disprovable at the time and had an impact that cost people their lives? The idea of a strong decisive leader that speaks his mind, does what "the people" want and gets things done is one that we have been told to like for years.

I agree that Antifa or some like group is a daft idea - not least for the reason that the extreme right loves uniforms, weapons and martyrs so will probably be able to out-organize any left group - but to blame the Left for the rise of Trump is just daft; lets face it the Left has been a nonentity in the US for years and was largely an irrelevance here as well from 1983-2015.

Great post.

I did say both sides play at it in the very post you quoted. And you have this very wrong impression I have a problem with 'weird' races, whatever that is. I've said numerous times the very opposite, I've said I support racial mixing, multi-cultural societies...all that good stuff. Or can you quote anything from any of my posts that in any small way support your impression?

I said this to you in the JP thread, and there's no kind way to say it: you don't comprehend nuanced arguments about how immigration separates Left & Right politics, so you interpret this as being racist. The link to calling innocent people "Nazis" so that they get punched in the face should be an obvious one, but I'm not sure you'll get it.

Nothing is more "identity politics" than lonesome middle-aged suburban white men frothing themselves up into a lather over other people's alleged identity politics

That's identity politics right there: defining into group identities rather than focussing on points raised. It's an odd way to debate, but you're not alone in resorting to it.

And exaggerating language is also part of the problem: frothing themselves up into a lather means to be angry or upset. The only evidence of anyone being angry or upset is @ilikecheese saying he's "sick to death", and I'm guessing he's middle-aged suburban and white, but the fine irony is you weren't referencing him. Or have I got that wrong?

You forgot middle-class. The absolute scum of the earth. Apparently.

'You' spent 6 years at war with the actual Nazis, as in Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany hasn't existed since 1945.

As said before, your view here is a dangerous stance and is potentially as bad as the violent racists themselves, for you first have to define & identify a Nazi. Who is one? Nowadays most people have been called a Nazi if they've revealed certain opposing views to progressive liberalism. So saying it's ok to punch a Nazi empowers violent types to punch people they don't agree with, the victim they'll call a Nazi so as to defend their violent assault.

Sorry is this some sort of defence of Nazi’s?

What @dholliday is patiently trying to enlighten us with is that he alone is capable of rising above the fray by approaching every issue without bias, and with total rationality and detachment (which is NOT AT ALL a self-flattering form of "identity") - and he'll prove it by reciting the Complete List of Logical Fallacies from memory.

He is very disappointed with the rest of us emotional indentitarians.
