All we need now is a statement from Meghan Markle proposing that 40 of her friends will give 40 minutes of their time to the women of Afghanistan, or maybe some woke statement about the need for the Taliban to love everybody…..

This is the kind of post that gets backs up unnecessarily and means that any valid points you have raised (and you have raised plenty) get lost in the bad sentiment that the post generates.

All eyes on the Taliban and who
they are going to murder, but it should also be towards the west ,(Britain included)
If they dont honour there commitments to people they sold a dream to employed ect.
We are as culpable, ( well the governments ) in there deaths,
if we do in fact turn are backs on them.
I normally argue agaist immigration, well with @bruce anyway
,but I think we should take everybody and there families that worked for us directly out of there if they want to , sure the majority do.

If they do I am joining the scouse Taliban, no fighting just grow a massive beard, and grow drug crops in my back garden.
Hopefully they pay me to do that and not cause trouble.
If they dont well it's off the leash we go.
All hanging off batterd 4 by 4's in a convoy and batter everybody we meet till we get to London,( bit like the Everton mob in the 70 and 80's, except it was Van's in those days) .
Surround the place and do a peace deal, that they leave but have to take all Londoners and the entire population of Newcastle with them that would teach them never to come back again.
If we lose we get sent to camp Bruce , in the balearic islands for a few years retraining.

Over the last few pages I've learned Meghan Markle is going to lead a woke army into action and take over Nato by force before leading a multi-national superdiverse taskforce into battle to safe Afghanistan by the power of well meaning hippy ideas.

Been over for a good few years. Lost full respect from the world 5 years ago when that TV personality got power.

Tbf, I’d say that it’s been over since 2013 when Assad ignored Obama’s red line and certainly in 2014 with the annexation of Crimea by Putin.

Strategically speaking it was an extremely difficult ask: Go in and fight a war against what basically amounts to a guerilla army who will align with whoever funds / supports them and never ever get properly taken out; before creating a new 'western' utopia by funding infrastructure; pumping cash into kit, resources and training to sustain it; before withdrawing without ever having made it self-sustainable or secure. The only way to do it was to make some form of uneasy deal with the Taliban and keep them inside the tent. Which clearly has not happened.

Its whole history is littered with conflict, conquered numerous times, used as a pawn in global power struggles, and that's before you get into the internal conflicts, It's cursed for where it is more than anything as it really dosnt have anything in the way of resources to offer other than its geography to anybody outside its borders, (beautiful country in parts by the way).

They do have resources there though do they not? Other than a surplus of opium is there not also lithium, other metals, plus petroleum and gas?

Yup, significant mineral resources it seems. Lithium particularly. Expect loads of stuff with a battery in it to go up in price now.

The yanks are supposed to have done survey of the country there are mineral, oil ect according to what they found, rumours of it being in the region on 1 trillion dollars worth , problem being it untapped and you would have to get the infrastructure in place to get it out ,roads pipelines, rail ect and the mines the workers with the expertise ect as well, plus were would you get the fiance from with the volatile war climate there?
Plus if it was feasible the yanks/Russia wouldnt have been so quick to move aside.

Chinese and Indian companies have been mining it for a while. But like you say, the infrastructure is challenging.
