"At this moment in time" is nothing more than an excuse to give yourself the moral high ground. It's done. The outcome of now, IMO, has little bearing on the ultimate judgment of the US incursion into Afghanistan. It was *always* going to be a failure the moment the Bush Administration expanded the mission beyond counter-terrorism. Succeeding Administrations listening to the Generals vested in the "success" of the mission was a profound mistake.

Either do or don’t do. The USA could have just bombed the absolute crap out of the Taliban as a reprisal for 9/11, but they chose not to. But you are right about the scope creep, but it was also culture creep, indeed I read somewhere that just a month or two ago the US embassy in Kabul put out a tweet or something suggesting everyone celebrates LGBTI, which I’m not sure they have got their heads around yet…..

Just put that in a post a while back, the flags are going up on building today.
It will be harder for them this time as the Taliban now has all the nice new stuff the ANA has given them ,
thank god the airforce got out on mass to Tajikistan or somewhere like that.
Tough lot that alliance , Russians didn't get near them or the Taliban last time.
If anybody backs them they will cause mayhem.
