A fantastic thing that I'm really excited about regarding Martinez at Everton so far

I'm gonna wait til September before I make any decisions. We played decent in the States and I can happily write off the Miami game as it was horribly humid and not the conditions for people to push themselves. I'll just sit with my nervous excitement and hope we snot our first 4 opponents.

That doesn't bother me. When peoples question others rights to form an opinion I think it's weird though. Especially on a forum designed for people to discuss everton fc.

I think the problem is more the nature of some of the criticism...seems a bit over the top considering the amount of the time, and as many are saying it leads you to believe a lot of fans will not give Martinez much time at all.

Taking performances in pre season and then taking previous styles and performances by Wigan and seriously worrying about whether we will get tonked is all too simplified and pointless for me. We have some damn good players, lets trust them to continue to make sure we are a team that rarely gets tonked....regardless of the new system and manager.

We shouldn't be talking about lets see after ten games unless we have been absolutely abysmal.

Theres lots of previous in football for dreadful pre seasons leading to great seasons, and vice versa. Same way there is precedence for dreadful starts at clubs leading to success....Fergie at Man U for example.

I think we should relax and act like classy fans of a classy club that doesn't start picking at things when he has not even gotten going, doesn't call for his head after a few losses and let him get a couple seasons under his belt to make it his team and his club.

And yeah I think it is fair to praise after a short time, as positive is always good, its the atmosphere that we should all be adding to right now. It will help the manager, which will help the players and ultimately help the club we all love.

I don't think there is Anybody not sceptical about the new manager, coaches, staff, players and all round revolution at the football club.

But to be so judgemental after a few games against the champions of Italy, Real Madrid and Valencia is a bit far fetched. They are the elite of European football and we kept within a goal of each of them. That's pretty damn good IMO.

I'm expecting a top 8 finish anything above that Europe/Cup etc would be fantastic just like it would have been under Moyes.

If Martinez can maintain amd build on what Moyes has done I'll be more than happy. We can't ask for anymore.

But he needs the backing of the board should the big players go. (Full funds for transfers) and also the backing of the fans. I'm not expecting us to get in the Champions League over night especially with the peanuts we spend.

Spot on mate, agree with all of that. Very fair assessment of the way things are.

Calm down eh?

I have a right to be slightly annoyed, my only crime was defending Martinez and I find myself on -3225 rep points, with vague comments left - "yawn". As I am new to the forum I didn't realize you weren't allowed a different opinion to people in power.

So we can only speak positively about Martinez. Are we allowed to think anything about him that isn't positive? This is getting a bit Orwellian for me!

Stones, Naismith and Oviedo have looked especially good in pre-season. Under Moyes they would still be resigned to the fringes of the squad until one of the regular players was injured. It seems though that Martinez is creating some genuine competition. Pienaar in particular should be feeling the heat from Oviedo, Naismith and Deulofeu. Hopefully it will push him to play like when he wanted a move back to us.

I didnt say that. Cmon. I was responding to your particular comment at the start saying the backlash is due to some of the criticism being way over the top this early in the job.

The rest was my opinion in general on the pointlessness of criticism and feeling we should be putting that energy into getting behind him.

Do you think any of my criticism is over the top?

Dunno to be honest. Cant remember...definitely can say you are a fairly reasonable poster. An example is the comment saying...as part of an overall complaint...that martinez signed ****e and lost games.

To me thats ridiculous and unnecessary from anybody looking to actually support the club and the new manager.

Just looking at the minutes played in America:

Jagielka 270
Distin 270
Fellaini 270
Coleman 216
Mirallas 206
Howard 180
Baines 180
Gibson 171
Naismith 146
Stones 144
Anichebe 134
Oviedo 124
Osman 122
Barkley 92
Pienaar 90
Joel 90
Jelavic 86
Heitinga 67
Deulofeu 64
Kone 48

I find it quite surprising that Osman, Barkley and Jelavic haven't played more often. Perhaps he could have looked at other centre back pairings too rather than playing Jags and Distin in every minute of every match.

As this is the positivity thread I'm pleased that 20 players have each had at least half a game in the States, rather than 13 or 14 players playing the majority of the time and the fringe men only getting sporadic cameos. I'm pleased too that we're not over-using Baines in particular. Rotating Oviedo in now and again could help to keep our star man fresh for big matches.
