A fantastic thing that I'm really excited about regarding Martinez at Everton so far

There's more angst in this 'the positive thread' than there is in the ones criticising him, job well done I say.

This thread is right up there with the Rooney transfer thread. I am fast losing faith in the inhabitants of this board

FFS this is supposed to be the positive thread. How long has he been in the job? Give him time!!! Some of the naysayers here have really annoyed me. It's like looking at a partly built house with only the frame up and moaning about no place to sleep or party. It's important to have a vision of the future and work towards it. Give him a season, weigh up the pros and cons, then start making judgements.
I've said it before: Martinez has a Herculean task at this club. Not only is he having to change the culture of our squad away from a pretty direct style of play - reminding grown men of the need to use the full range of their technical abilities - he also has to contend with many fans who (because of years of expecting that same style of play) will become edgy and critical of any deviation from the predictable - but safe and quick method - of moving the ball into the opposition's half. He's got a real fight on his hands here with that lot.

Poor form how this thread has turned out, place needs a cull.

Blues against blues before a ball has even been kicked. We already have a divided fanbase sadly, we don't need it over the manager too.

In time it will become apparent if he's the right man for the job, lets see.

I'm just happy to hear the manager talking positively. Yes if we start losing and he starts saying how well we played it'll get annoying (Wigan were good enough for top 7 last year don't you know), but its at least nice to have someone talking up the young players for once.

I'm in full agreement with the OP but seriously thinking of writing to Bobby advising throwing of the first 2 games by 3 to draw the venom of the latent Moyes FC crew.

A full blown "SAID HE WAS SHTE!", "BURN HIS EFFIGY!", "STONE HIS CAR!" and such like would vent the pent up anger and frustration of losing the sainted one before going on a scintillating chapter of glory and winning football on a par with any in this clubs history - it would lance the festering boil allowing them to regain their "evertoness"

Of course if Bobby retorts couldn't do such a thing with honourable comments about us being a revered institution of unmatched history and standing I will refer him to the penultimate anfield derby when Moyes was in charge and Gerard had a field day - BOBBY IT CAN BE DONE!

As long as he plays to win he has my support.

The amount of times Moyes played for a 0-0, we went a goal down and he had no idea what to do was staggering.

Hopefully Moyes took the losers attitude with him when he left, too. Nothing worse than turning up at Anfield knowing the best we'll come out with that day is a draw, and even that depends on the ****e playing rubbish.

I can't wait until the season starts so I can stop clicking on these silly threads :D

I always wondered why we spent 3m on stones in january and never played him. Hopefully martinez gives him plenty of opportunity this season as I can see him becoming an England regular in the future. Was quality at Barnsley!

There's no surer way to ruin a team's chances than by speaking negatively about the manager and players on an internet forum. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

very well stated. I hope they know what he wants and that they can do it.

We are losing sight of the fact that this squad was good enough to finish sixth last year and with a bit more adventure in certain games could have finished higher.
We have added four players to the squad and all four will take time to settle at the club and get used to their new teammates,it will take a number of weeks before we see the best of them.It does seem as well that Barkley and Stones are now seen as first team squad members, they will take time to get the confidence to fully express themselves.
We should we be surprised that Oviedo is impressing everybody,he was signed as a first team player and David Moyes was certainly shrewd in the transfer market at that level.Oviedo has had a year to settle and is now ready to push on,the same could be said about Naismith...possibly.
The entire squad is getting used to the demands of the new management team

...Martinez will be the same as any other manager when it comes to playing youngsters, including Moyes. He'll play them if they're good enough. He wont use league games to 'trial' players because we are in a results game and his job is on the line. Realistically, a youngster comes through every now and then so don't expect Barklay et al to come rushing through an open door just like Beckham and folk did at United. I'm concerned that there is too much hype about the likes of Barklay and to a lesser degree Duffy. I fear they wont suddenly emerge due to a change of manager. Saying that, I think Stones could well be the real deal and if that is the case it wouldn't matter who's in charge.

I really dont know what team you were watching last season. Certainly not the one that had the bulk of posession in the vast majority of games they played, or one in which comfortably out performed Wigan in every department statistically that you can think of.

Aye, people are selling some of the great football we played last year quite short. I quite liked that we could mix up direct play and more fluid attacking play. However it was greatly frustrating to see us at times revert to hoofball or trying to force it too much down the left flank. Passing-possession-football isn't the only way to play good football. Bayern and Dortmund were a testament to that this year. High pressing, direct, attacking and bumming team from the wings and on the counter. That was great to watch. Although I must admit, from what I watched last year, we have to learn to keep the ball better. Especially when we're in the lead.

One of my personal fears is that we may be too one-dimensional under the Martinez style of play, I feel that was one of Liverpool's biggest problem last season.

Hopefully Martinez can make me rest easy.
