Is totally right.

On the face of it a sixth place finish wouldn't be any better than last year and yea, the table doesn't lie. But under the old manager we weren't going to progress any higher and sixth was about as good as we could realistically achieve. We now have a new way of playing which gives us hope for better things. Despite some recent setbacks, it's way better being a Blue now than it was 12 months ago.

I think given the level of financial backing in the 2 transfer windows (both negative net spend), and set against what other teams have spent, I think it marks a real achievement if we finish 6th and qualify for Europa. The only way the season could go any better is if the charlatans who own the majority shareholding sold up for what they paid to someone with the means to take the club forward. I'll stop dreaming now.

If we won the europa next season there would be plenty of people on here eating their words!

Or if our team in the Europa next year made the first team squad the following season and proved to be rather good when not on loan in the lower leagues.

Or the fact that champions league is clearly out of our range anytime soon so any extra competition we can win should be seen as a positive.

Don't understand this at all.

We haven't won a trophy in 20 years almost. We have finished a little lower down the league some seasons than we are used to, and we come back up.

THe Europa League gives you the chance for some cracking ties against very good opposition around Europe, the League Cup doesn't. It also gives the winner a Champions League place.

We wont self destruct if we push hard in some cups, our squad gets tired and we drop a couple of league places.

there's no money in the Europa league, and its highly unlikely we'd win it....more importantly, we don't have the squad to cope with the extra games (it was a blessing for liverpool not having europa league football this year, and its showing in their league campaign....it's also impacted badly on clubs like Newcastle last season, and Spurs this year who have lost most of their sunday games following a europa league game...... and us back in 2005/6 when we dropped from 4th one year to 11th the next, and were near the bottom for half that season)....

our squad is too small to chase too many targets....and if we chase the europa, i gaurantee you we can forget about challenging the top 4 next season....so if we do get it, we should use it as an opportunity to play the kids & squad players....
