I know mate, that’s my point. It’s blatantly a deeper issue than just the MAGA cult but these are places which voted the opposite way 4 years ago.
They needed to actually present a competent opposition to Trump instead of just ceding ground to him on so many issues (immigration, crime etc) and instead give policies which would ostensibly improve lives and good explanations as to why the policies would do so
They need to change from the party of "nice" to the party of "fair". This doesn't mean checking your empathy at the door, but it does mean recalibrating on what the general population sees as reasonable.
Trump mostly ran on an anti-stance. It wouldn't have worked as well, I think, had the Dems not spent most of their effort teeing things up instead of delivering, and if they had the humility to understand that strong stances, even on ethically moral grounds, are difficult to land with voters who don't understand or are actively scared of nuanced positions that have not been talked about never mind commonly held outside of the last 10-15 years.
