Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

I recall when Obama flubbed the first debate with Romney and Dems were all in a panic. I also recall when at this point in 2016 the pollsters had Hillary Clinton at 80% likely to win.

Last night's debate audience was down 33% from the first debate in 2020. I already felt this anecdotally in my small part of the world as there are virtually no political signs, flags, or new bumper stickers to be seen, and hardly anyone talks about the race. Folks are not engaged and, most likely, entrenched.
I think the problem is while there is time to recover, Biden isn’t getting younger. His problem will always be a problem and it will get worse. He might not be losing votes that were with him but he’s not gaining votes that weren’t already and that’s what’s needed. I don’t think we can bank on the votes against trump this time. We need to be voting for a candidate and that won’t happen with Biden. I am not optimistic at all that November ends well.

I've seen more than a few focus groups of independents who broke for Biden in post-debate discussions.

I understand that Dems like to fall in love with their candidate. Four years ago, Dems didn't fall in love with anyone and I don't see anyone out there at this time who is the obvious successor to Biden who swells the party faithful's hearts.

Frankly, I'm glad people aren't optimistic. Optimism leads to complacency. If we want Trump out, we gotta turn people out to vote. :)

None? Oh, there's loads of expertise available in this forum on this subject.

No, I would not believe you if you said you were an expert. Are you even an American?
How would you define it? Alma mater from political science or smth else?

Would you say you are an expert?

How's this... someone having special knowledge or skill derived from experience and/or training.

I've been part of the management of three local campaigns (two wins, one loss), have run for office myself (elected 4x a party precinct chairman), and have a degree in political science...

Do I call myself an expert? No. Do I have a good bit of experience in politics? Yes.

He is losing votes. That’s the problem for his campaign.
