Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

@Goat and @Ruairi77 said that it is impossible to remove Biden in the last two months. Mocked people who suggested it.
What changed? Do u guys think it was an inside job to force about a debate in June so that Biden looks fragile and it is still very early in the election campaign?
wait a minute,
I did say the Democrats wont remove Biden (unless he's medically incapable).
Unfortunately I still think thats the likely scenario.
I mocked @davek for spending 20 pages arguing why Gaza disqualifies Biden over Trump. I really only started on him when he suggested people vote for Stein. I've no regrets there.

I accept your apology mate.

Look, 'here's the deal' as Biden might say: Trump could basically go out and murder people and still beat Biden in that match up.

Democrats need to switch to Newsom (as I suggested) to win the election. It's as simple as that.

🤷‍♂️
If you read my posts over the last 18 months, you'd know I agree that the Dems should have run someone else.
I still think it's too late to switch to Newsom. Tho after last night, I'm not sure he'd fare worse than Biden. So fare dues for that!

In my honest opinion, only Michelle Obama wins easily.

The problem with Newsom is he’s the ultimate in form over substance

He’s who we all would love in a debate setting. He would absolutely destroy not only Trump but anyone in the GOP. It would be like watching an adult play basketball on an 8 foot rim against a 10 year old

But he'd be a risk, b/c all the media and the Trumpers would need to do is say "But look at California" (whatever that means) and people would run for the hills

The problem is there is no centrist Democrat that everyone can get behind right now. As everyone on this thread has already stated multiple times, we all had hope that Biden was a 4 year stopgap while they could groom a successor. Alas, that hasn't happened

For the Americans amongst us, why wouldn't the Dems change candidates after this? Old Joe seems a decent human being (and someone I'd like as a Grandad!) but his years are clearly having a (natural) effect on him.
Surely most independents would support another Dem candidate against Trump? Surely its crystal clear by now the nature of Trump's character? From the outside looking in, I think Trump wants to be Xi Jinping. I sat up and took notice when he was delighted that Xi had his term extended and said 'he's like the King of China'. I don't know if I'm being over dramatic here but I could foresee him changing the rules and
basically staying in power till he dies. He has such a grip on that party.
I genuinely worry about civil war in the States, I think that's more likely that a world war. (And the consequences just as bad as Xi and Putin would be delighted).
Because the time for that would have been during primary season, after Biden would have said 9 months ago that he wasn't running for re-election.

Now "they" can't just put someone up - who would that be?

Well, I think it would take a massive upheaval in the Democratic party to change things now.
Most of the delegates have been selected and they are Biden delegates so a brokered convention is unlikely.
The only way it happens is if Biden concedes.
Anyone who wants that job has an ego that will never concede.
Plus he's listening to people tell him
- it was an off night, you had a cold, no one remembers the first debate...

Even if Biden concedes, it gives Trump a huge stick to beat the Dems with and makes the job for the new nominee even tougher.

All that said. I do want them to change horse.

You could be right on that one.

What do I know though...

@Ruairi77

:coffee:

Really strange to gloat, especially when you are simply unaware of the process of removing a Democratic candidate who won 99% of the delegates and will be nominated early by the DNC due to a weird technicality in Ohio. And especially weird to gloat since everyone here, since before you steamed into this forum with your single-issue dogmatism, had already discussed that Biden was a very weak candidate and that the Democratic machine is a bunch of centrist clowns who run establishment candidates, independent of their electability (e.g., H Clinton).

Just catching up and didn't see this point being brought up, so I'll say it now

Among many of the problems we have in this country, another stark one is the response to last night's "debate"

By any objective measure, both candidates completely disqualified themselves last night.
  • You could probably count on one hand the amount of truths that Trump said last night. He was the unhinged nonsensical buffoon he's always been
  • Biden, meanwhile looked old, not confident, and elicited doubts about his ability to hold this office for 4 years.
But guess what? Only Democrats (and a lot of non-MAGA independents and republicans) are melting down today. Rightfully so

In MAGA-land? Trump killed it last night. What a guy I want to lead the country

Simply terrifying

Trump could have gone on that strange, wet himself, and left and MAGA-land would be raving about it.

Give someone decent a chance against him and we’d see how small a percentage of the US electorate MAGA actually are.

Ok, mate. Fair enough.

By MAGA I mean true believers and people like my acquaintances who STILL vote for Trump because.......taxes and anti-woke

The sum of those two is why this is even close right now

That's all pretty much nonsense.

I asked others earlier this week prior to Genocide Joe's meltdown last night whether there was a precedent set whereby someone this far advanced into the nomination process could be replaced. I was very aware of the difficulties involved. But my call that the Democrats better set such a precedent right now was prescient. The discussion on here about replacing him from Democrats who'd have had another candidate earlier in the race had died a death. But, lo-and-behold, all the talk today is of replacing Biden....this late on.

Please try and read other's words more carefully to avoid placing your feet in your gob.

Your fixation on Gaza relative to decades of American policy relative to Joe Biden relative to how any Republican would handle the situation let alone how a Trump administration would handle it is nothing short of bizarre
