Because the time for that would have been during primary season, after Biden would have said 9 months ago that he wasn't running for re-election.

Now "they" can't just put someone up - who would that be?

Just catching up and didn't see this point being brought up, so I'll say it now

Among many of the problems we have in this country, another stark one is the response to last night's "debate"

By any objective measure, both candidates completely disqualified themselves last night.

• You could probably count on one hand the amount of truths that Trump said last night. He was the unhinged nonsensical buffoon he's always been
• Biden, meanwhile looked old, not confident, and elicited doubts about his ability to hold this office for 4 years.

But guess what? Only Democrats (and a lot of non-MAGA independents and republicans) are melting down today. Rightfully so

Democrats are only melting down because Biden lost so badly. Had Biden won or drawn last night this thread would be filled with 'oh look, the old dog still has some fight in him' type posts.

Most of us here saw this train wreck coming from hundreds of miles away

It's why, to a man and woman in here, we were stunned by Biden's desire to run for another term.

But it is what it is. You just get behind what reality is.

Kind of like being an Evertonian. Sure we all wish we could play beautiful football with guys like James all over the park, scoring loads. But Dycheball it is in our current financial situation. Dycheball had some ugly football midseason, but we stayed the course and ended up being comfortable.

I don't know what I'm saying. All I know is Trump can't win re-election. I still don't know, even after last night, whether everyone can agree on a candidate other than Biden to do that that won't alienate those on the fringes or keep people from voting

His SOTU address was good, last night was not.

Much as you can criticize senior democrats for their choices, the elder statesmen of the GOP could have voted to impeach Trump for an attempted coup and stopped him being able to run this time.

Although I was more centre-right on certain issues and moving toward the left throughout my career in finance, I was a registered republican until 2016

I'm not also advocating to vote FOR Biden. No one is. I'm advocating to vote AGAINST Trump. Like any good American should

Sorry for repeating myself, but once again it’s a scandal that the top of the Democratic Party wasn’t purged after 2016. They are specialists in failure, the heroes of defeat.

Watch them now struggle on with Biden, insisting him (and they) are the only ones who can beat Trump, get past the point that Biden could be safely replaced and see him struck down by a medical episode.

Unfortunately there is form, both by the politicians and the voters

I suspect my response will be of the 'It's Trump we're trying to avoid' variety.

But that's no argument at all. It's a variant of the 'my party right or wrong' specious justification.

You just have to make the moral choice sometimes...this one being such a time.

My question of the last few weeks has been: is it too late to get Biden out and replace him with someone more ethical? Now that is being looked at - although from a competency angle.
