It's an absolute damning indictment of the Democrats that Biden has made it this far. Neither candidate are fit for office (Biden through fragility - Trump for numerous reasons)

I said it before that the GOP has picked the only Candidate that Biden could actually beat. Democrats have picked the only candidate that Trump could beat

Any other notable Democrats would have wiped the floor with Trump last night. Trump had a poor performance but Biden had one of the worst performances in history.

Democrats could still win this if they pulled the plug today and maybe Newsome started campaigning now. But they won't.

For the Americans amongst us, why wouldn't the Dems change candidates after this? Old Joe seems a decent human being (and someone I'd like as a Grandad!) but his years are clearly having a (natural) effect on him.
Surely most independents would support another Dem candidate against Trump? Surely its crystal clear by now the nature of Trump's character? From the outside looking in, I think Trump wants to be Xi Jinping. I sat up and took notice when he was delighted that Xi had his term extended and said 'he's like the King of China'. I don't know if I'm being over dramatic here but I could foresee him changing the rules and
basically staying in power till he dies. He has such a grip on that party.
I genuinely worry about civil war in the States, I think that's more likely that a world war. (And the consequences just as bad as Xi and Putin would be delighted).

They can see it whatever way they like, there's no way he stays on beyond the 4 years. He would be forcibly ejected, the US is broken but it's not THAT broken.

The worry is he didn’t want to go last time and was forced out because his VP and various state officials did the right thing , since then he’s effectively purged the party . Last time his team ‘gamed ‘ using the military to retain power . Trump will most likely walk away after his term ends , would I bet my life on it though ? No chance .

It’s just a sad time. I can’t recall ever having two worse options. The days of Romney vs Obama seem so far away (regardless of your politics those were two bright, reasonable men).

The mystifying thing to me is that both parties are running the only candidate the other could beat. If the republicans were running anyone competent and not a potential danger to the fabric of our country (say Nikki Haley) I think she would win going away as Biden is clearly declining and will be who know where in another 4 years. If the democrats ran someone who was more likely than not to not require elder care in the next four years I think Trump has no chance.

Hayley would take a good chunk of the moderate vote and the female vote. Republicans would vote for her and Ultra Maga would go back to not voting.

Moderate Dems (or purple Dems) would potentially vote for her over Biden.

Much of what you say applies to Kamala Harris for the Dems. She's fairly moderate and she'd surely sweep the female vote. Yet no-one in the Dem party is actively excited about Kamala Harris as their Presidential nominee.

Elections are won more by getting the base out than by attracting moderates. That's why almost no-one wants Harris or Haley as their nominee. Though at this point Harris is the cleanest option for Dems if they jettison Biden.

Not really. They are both old as [Poor language removed] and trying to convince the electorate they are physically fit. Viewers can make their own minds up on which of them looks fitter.

I could see them picking Newsome but he’d be entirely the wrong person; the population are clearly sick of the establishment (on both sides), so the correct person would be someone from outside the political class altogether.

Get someone who is respected, capable and who can say things simply and honestly and they will clean up that election. Obviously to do that though they need to surrender what power they have and admit they are a big part of the problem though.

I want Biden punished for aiding and abetting genocide in Gaza.

I want the Democrats to win, but they can only do that from the left of centre - or at least with a candidate who can get the confidence of young Democratic voters and Muslim Americans.
