As @Donald Twain said earlier on, there only seems to be him and his channel 4 news that have been really pushing the story. Other media outlets have seemingly ingored it, or given it cursory coverage.

..yes, I followed it on C4 News. I think the lack of momentum is because the other major parties have been up to it in the past as well. Saying that, the Tory's are the ones with a smoking gun and lots of them will be sleeping uneasy.

There's something to be said about the media portrayal of Corbyn though, surely?

Absolutely, but suggesting that people are so easily persuaded by the media is just another way of suggesting that they are thick and unable to think for themselves.

However, folks whose pensions and investments are linked to stocks and shares might be a tad concerned at the markets reactions to the calling of a GE.
There were loads of people on here the day after the Brexit vote using the same argument after seeing the FTSE plummet. It didn't take long for it to regain what it lost and has been performing better than ever since (I believe). It's a non-argument really

is there anything worth voting for , for mr middle Englander?
you know , all joking apart they are all just different levels of crap to me theses days, cant vote tory because they are doing what they always do look after there own,
Libs, opportunist band of flip floppers.
UKIP, just why would you
Greens , leader alone puts me off.
Labour, just not endorsing the rat bags that are running the show at the moment , as much as it will kill me in the voting booth,
looks like a random x for an independent for me this time.

Many people are persuaded by the media. I include myself in that. The problem is that lots of the outlets so vehemently anti Corbyn are aimed at working classes.

What you are saying then is better to have labour in power to minimise the ill effects of the Tories even if it takes a more mainstream labour (and remember they did not vote against tax credits cuts) to do this?

If that's it I respect that view (it has a real logic to it) even though I favour Corbyn for his genuineness, decency and near pacifism.

It is absolutely unquestionable that the media has an influence, however, anybody who is persuaded to vote or not to vote for somebody simply because of what they hear or read, is, to be completely blunt, completely stupid and devoid of any intelligence.

The left accuses the tabloids of bias against the left, and the right accuses the BBC of bias against the right - it has always been that way.

They're generally just reporting the stupid things he says and does.

They didn't invent him not singing the national anthem, advocating no nuclear weaponry, refusing to support anti-terrorist officers shooting terrorists on a rampage and inventing a seating crisis on a train, for example.

They also aren't imagining his ridiculously poor outings at PMQs, when he misses more open goals than Stuart Barlow ever could.

And the media certainly aren't responsible for hiring incompetent fools and building a tight, impenetrable inner circle of left wing stupidity consisting of idiots like Thornberry, Abbott and McDonnell. And yes, "idiots" is the right word - they are unbelievably terrible at their jobs.

He gives them the ammo, because he is incompetent. Incredibly incompetent. So incompetent that he frequently surprises me with how incompetent he is, even though I already know he is incompetent.

But lots of people do exactly that. So many people aren't as politically informed as those contributing to this thread for many reasons, be it feeling unconnected with politics or lack of political education at school.

The BBC could never get away with being bias against the right, by the way.

We all vote based on what we hear and read to some extent, some people just spend more time reading into things than others.

There are millions of people who don't have much interest in politics and don't have an understanding of Corbyn's political philosophy. If every time they pick up a newspaper Corbyn gets absolutely slated, why would they vote for him?
