Not an indicator of economic performance that matters to very many people. Certainly not individual days. All about the trends.

Unemployment is reasonably low and that's what matters to your every day person.

However, folks whose pensions and investments are linked to stocks and shares might be a tad concerned at the markets reactions to the calling of a GE.

Yea of course. But not on one days trading is my point. The 100 is still well into the 7 thousands so it's hardly a concern.
