Here is Tim Farron, the Lib Dem leader, on the announcement.

This election is your chance to change the direction of our country.

If you want to avoid a disastrous hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the single market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance.

Only the Liberal Democrats can prevent a Conservative majority.

he's going for it, im prob gonna vote lib dem based on that..
A LibLab anti brexit coalition I would get behind.

Although I remain distrustful of all politicians.

Took him 5 minutes to respond, and that's Tim Farron - hardly an elite politician.

Watch how long Corbyn takes to trudge a confused response out. Says it all.

No mate, honestly, they are not the reasons - it's all down to him and his broken ideology that the silent majority in this country simply do not buy in to.

There's a social media echo chamber that's positive for Corbyn - the minority of loudmouths. When the whole country suddenly has a voice, you'll see just how much a minority they are.

Labour need to be electorally wiped out here to understand that they need to change course, especially with the membership dictating who becomes leader due to their stupid internal electoral rules.

er - they are at between 25% and 33% of polling. That is a sizeable minority now, and it will probably go up when put to the test.

As for the rest, that is just the fascist in you talking.

I'll personally vote for Lib Dems as they are opposing brexit, but did Theresa May state that her party needed 2/3's of all votes to just push through brexit as they see fit ie a hard brexit? Or did I hear that wrong? If that is the case I can't see the cons getting that sort of majority and I'll be delighted. Even labour, though they are seemingly supportive of brexit, probably won't take us out of the single market and evaporate our freedoms to work on the continent and Ireland without the process of gaining and maintaining work visas/residency permits.

Farron was only two days ago demanding that someone have their citizenship removed because of their posts on Instagram and Facebook.

Hang on a moment.

I thought that one of the first things Cameron and Clegg did when they formed the coalition was to set a fixed five year term for parliament and that nowt short of the PM losing a vote of confidence could trigger an early election.

Was the not the case?

Edit: it's also very likely that tories pick up lots of ukip votes in the north. What's the point of ukip when theresa can achieve your objectives in a much more competent and less toxic manner?
Exactly. What is UKIP's mandate and attraction? Independence from Europe? The Government have already achieved what they will desire.

Of course they'll get some of the votes from the right but I don't think their attraction will be too large. Another aspect of gaining the majority.

There is actually a young lad called Carl Cashman running for Metro Mayor for the LibDems and he actually seems genuine and has some valid ideas.

Nick Clegg made that party a joke, but there are people trying to rebuild it.
