Because it's practically rammed down their throats.

But that's The S*n. The other example is the Mail. They are right wing media, it's what they do.

In a normal world, you'd find examples in The Guardian etc. to counter it - but that's just the problem with Corbyn; he doesn't generate any desire to report positively about him, because he's genuinely hopeless.

And thus...

This is true, however, people are much, much more likely to be influenced by the views of family and friends than they are the media. Just like in the same way people tend to conform to certain habits based on what their friends and family do.

Agreed, I'm not saying that the media is the only factor, but it certainly plays a part.

As for your second point, if somebody is picking up a newspaper that is slating Corbyn, they're presumably picking up a centre-right newspaper, right? Nobody is forced to buy a newspaper, so you'd have to assume that if somebody buys a centre-right newspaper, they enjoy reading it, and therefore wouldn't be a pro-corbyn voter regardless.

Because (1) not everyone chooses their newspaper based on it's political persuasion, especially when it comes to red-tops and (2) there are not that many centre-left papers to choose from if you don't like the Guardian.

The real issue is what happens to the 4 million UKIP votes. UKIP is finished, it stands for nothing as the Conservatives had told everyone they will exit the EU. Some voters may go back to Labour, none will go to the Libs, many more will probably go to the Conservatives to see Brexit through. If the UKIP people really believed that all they want is to get out of Europe then they should close up the shop and advise everyone to vote Tory......

This could be the salvation of the Labour Party. Trailing the Conservatives by 21 points in the latest opinion polls there could be a bloodbath, Labour reduced to a rump of MPs, the fewest in living memory. BUT this maybe could enable the Party to ditch the appalling Corbyn and get in a proper leader. The big problem is that Momentum along with some extreme left wing TU bosses have a stranglehold on the way members vote.

When will Labour learn that moaning about the NHS and social care provision without saying how they (us actually) would pay for anything different just doesn't cut it with the voting public?

They do. Whether consciously or sub-consciously, they do. They choose to read that paper because they enjoy reading that paper and what is in it. Therefore, the newspaper reflects their beliefs.

If The Daily Mail suddenly went hard left tomorrow and hailed Corbyn as a hero etc. etc. then their readers would abandon ship, because it is no longer the same paper in tone and content that they enjoyed.

A newspaper is a product, pure and simple.

Yes, the S*n and the Daily Mail - Britain's most read newspapers.

There are far, far fewer examples of that sort of mudslinging from the left wing press, but that's just the way it goes. It's been like that for a long time and unless Labour get another Tony Blair as leader (i.e someone who will appease Murdoch), they're gonna get the brunt of it.

But that's just the problem with Corbyn; he doesn't generate any desire to report positively about him, because he's genuinely hopeless.

I'm not arguing in favour of Corbyn by any stretch of the imagination. I agree he's hopeless. I just think that the wolves were well and truly out before that was even apparent, as was the case with Ed Miliband.

The bold bit is why Labour actually needs to lose badly. They need a loss so devastating that the next leader can't be of the same ilk as Corbyn.

There is mate, just in different style. The right wing press mudsling through the lowest common denominator (put a jesters hat on him - LOL!), whilst the left go for pseudo-intellectual 2,000 word columns from Stewart Lee. They amount to the same thing, just done in different ways.

What do you think is more effective?

I think with Farage as leader still they would get votes but without him they are nothing

What do you think is more effective?

Both. They are appealing to different audiences, so they are effective in different ways.

But the common theme is that they are appealing to a pre-set audience - 99% of people who read or view said material already have their views defined to such a degree that they want to read the editorial spin that paper has in the first place. Otherwise they would not be there.

The Sun and the Daily Mail are the two most circulated papers in the country. They sell over 3x more papers than all of the broadsheets combined. Their view counts for more.

there is only ONE option for former UKIP voters. and thats to go tory to see the brexit deal thro as you say.

this is why the election has been called now, whilst they are in such a dominant position.

Because 3x more people want to read what they write.

They don't force people to buy them. They reflect their audience. They basically put out what they want, and then it is up to people to choose what they want to consume.

So, by definition, all newspaper readerships are echo chambers, unless you read across the political spectrum - and if you do, you're immune to the bias as you are consciously aware of it going in and are reading for research purposes.

I don't quite agree with this, mate. The mail is the most read online newspaper in the world. A lot of why people read it is it is lively, readable and has really good apps for online reading. I'm willing to bet most of the country and people on this forum read it and that not everyone agrees with its views
