Hmm, I can see why those people would gravitate to UKIP but not to the Tories. After all, Theresa was a remainer- even if only a luke warm one.

Id say because the Tories are being portrayed overwhelmingly as the 'safe bet' in regards to the biggest political issue of many voters' lives.

It is a way of not voting Tory in the north...

I must have lived a sheltered life.

Dont get why someone would vote for a more right wing party than the Tories, because they dont like the Tories.

Just vote according to the issues, who you think best addresses those issues, and hope enough agree with you.

ICM poll carried out after the announcement:

21pt lead! And the campaign hasn't even started yet.... How low can Labour go?

The LibDems come straight out with a statement, Labour do not, LD steal 1% of their share. The Tories are just acquiring the soft UKIP votes.

yup Channel four were the only ones chasing this and deserve some sort of recognition , who'd have thought investigative journalism still existed eh? There's that much of a crap storm brewing for the bluff merchant oldbag one would think she would call a snap election even though she's said she wouldn't !

I'm going to break the prevailing view of these threads and say that I don't think it makes most difference to most peoples lives here whoever wins elections (most parties being various shades of the same things) and I am not going to demonise any of the parties or leaders as I can see positive things in all of them.

Because to so many people in so many areas it is culturally unacceptable to vote Tory (just the way people have been brought up)... that type of blind loyalty to Labour is falling and it can be seen in the vote share labour have had since 1997.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if we find out that May had some advance warning of this, hence today's announcement
