They can only be extended with the unanimous consent of member states of the EU.

Greenland took the full three years to complete talks and they was really only concerned over fishing rights.

Program on five live yesterday talking to people from Greenland about the referendum and negotiations after it. The person who headed up the negotiations said he had more people on his team than Britain currently has.

He actually laughed when saying good luck on the talks because they only had a few concerns to negotiate. We will have to create sub teams on various matters and we are majorly under staffed and unprepared.

It's a good job that they're taking up a few months of it with electioneering then really, especially with a probable cabinet reshuffle after the election that will consume even more time and energy.

Greenland was nowhere near as much of an issue as Brexit is. I would be amazed if the talks were extended, as you point out the May government is not staffing them with any kind of suggestion that the negotiations will be serious.

This is the attitude that really does my head in.

People of your (and Eggs') age were part of a generation that had decent pension provision, a decent NHS, decent education, reasonably secure employment, decent housing and living standards and you voted for a Labour Party that between 1997 and 2010 helped to get rid of most of it and which carried out the biggest foreign policy disaster of our times. I voted for them as well, though the last few times were through increasingly gritted teeth.

Rejecting them now that they have a leader who at least says he will try to undo all of the damage that was done, and knowing what the Tories will do in the event of a big victory, is just insane.

..I can tell you life hasn't always been rosy for our generation. It was tough living a large part of my life working for a Thatcher government. High interest rates, high unemployment.

I appreciate politics is emotive. I appreciate I've got myself in a very comfortable position but I have kids and I want the best for the next generation. I want the best for all youngsters but I'm afraid this Labour Party is an ineffective opposition, never mind an alternative government. I see some brilliant young Labour MPs, but a party in turmoil too influenced by a faction that doesn't resonate with the electorate. I respect your views but we need Labour to be a viable alternative and it's some way off that now. Apologies.

Sorry, I thought that describing someone as a journalist who has been employed in journalism between 1981 and late 2015, and who only resigned his post at the Guardian three months ago, would be accurate.

Well, I suppose some of the Khmer Rouge also had day jobs

... and ironically you want to give the party back to the set of people responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths

You're meaning Blair aren't you - because he's the only alternative. Absolutely stock Corbyn rubbish - 'It's us or Blair's lot'; not true at all.

Of course it is. Go on and list the likely replacements as leader, or more accurately the likely replacements as leader who wouldn't have the likes of Campbell stabbing them in the back every day.

And here we have it, ladies and gentleman, why the Labour party has allowed itself to chuck itself off a cliff.

'Corbyn or Blair, the only options'.

Your Dear Leader is about to condemn the country to a largely unopposed five more years of right-leaning misery. But it'll be someone else's fault.

I'll put something else here. Should Labour win - and let's have it right, it would be a shock well beyond Brexit and Trump for them to turn it round in 51 days - Diane Abbott would probably the Minister in charge of the NHS. Would make Mid Staffs look Florence Nightingale's wet dream

Think it's worth noting that the tories, with the aid of Ulster Unionists, are about to absolutely unload on Corbyn for his support of terrorism. The minute he turns up in somewhere like Birmingham, Guildford, Warrington etc, he's gonna have plenty of opponents reminding the electorate there that this is a man who supports the organisation who bombed them. And it's not just the IRA, it's Hezbollah and other middle eastern groups too. I sense it's about to get rather nasty.
