Ha! Proof you're a troll, excellent :D

What are you on about ?

I haven't misrepresented anything you've said. I don't think it's acceptable to ever be over the moon that Everton lose a game. I would find it acceptable if it were the last game of the season and some ridiculous turn of events would mean that we'd qualify for Europe if we didn't win, but other than that no, and i'd certainly never be 'over the moon'.

Is it possible to lose a game to qualify for something? Genuine question...

I suppose if you're a cup runner up and finishing 11th, you might need the cup winners to finish 5th rather than 8th in order to get a european place.

In which case losing a league game against them could get you into europe.

Imagine the controversy and uproar if that happened.

Oh ffs Tubey, can you please just say you slightly overexaggerated by saying "over the moon" and say you just meant you'd take a loss if it meant more wins in the future.

Just to stop Brennan going on and on and on about 1 choice of ****ing phrase when its clear (at least to me) that if by going out of both cups early on it meant we won the qualfier for the CL and therefor got to the group stages, it would mean more to us as a club in terms of money and prestige allowing us to move forward as a club in the long run than a domestic cup win would even though that would probably give us as fans a better experience in winning it thatn getting knocked out of the CL group stages would.

I see both sides and would like to win a cup and get in to the CL proper but if i had to pick one over the other (which lets face it, in our position we'd be very unlikely to get both) i would. Cup win is better short term but i think CL qualification is better long term.

So get knocked out by Chelmsford but go on to get into the CL group stages? Yeah, come August i'd look back and be bloody happy we went out the FA cup early because with our squad the lack of games would have helped us get CL group stage.

Over the moon was probably not the right phrase but hardly worth 2 pages of bloody argument over it.

It would be like someone saying in 2003 "oh i'd be over the moon if Rooney got sold" and then bitching at them for it when they meant they'd be happy of Rooney got sold but the next season we finished 4th.

Even if we did get 4th we would be unseeded for the qualifier, and would need to invest in the squad before that game but the board wouldnt risk it. but then whats the point of trying that hard for a season, and then hope for the best

Agreed mate, Ive thought about that and it would be horrible to go through that again

Yeah, qualifying for the CL has really benefited those other clubs, like Spurs ? And erm, Leeds ? And erm, Blackburn ?

And btw, he also said that nobody cares about either domestic trophy and they're just bits of metal. I took issue with that as well.

I think it will benefit EVERTON more by getting into the Champions League group stages than it would by winning the FA cup.

You get that yeah?

Sure, its not the holy grail and any kind of guarantee that things will get better, but CL is where the money is, and success is mostly where the money is. We're more likely to win the Fa cup in the future if we can get in the CL and do well than we are liekly to do well in the CL by winning the FA cup.

Its better FOR US AS A CLUB to get CL and do well than to win 1 FA cup.

That's fine. I'm not quite sure why you're posting though tbh, you're now just echoing an opinion other people have already put forward and adding to the 'pointless' discussion.

There was no issue with the kind of thing you just posted. It was the 'Over the moon' and 'Domestic cups mean nothing' posts.

Yeah ok. I think he was clearly exaggerating to make a point and even when he explained what he meant you still picked out those phrases rather than his actual valid point.

Nevermind though, cause after all, even if we get in the CL group stages we'd get humilated and finish bottom anyway. Ideally we wouldn't and the goal is to do well but with our Euro history i wouldn't hold out much hope.

Why do you say that? So we can beat the top teams in the premiership but we´d get humiliated by the Valencias, Schalkes and Olympiacos:es of the CL group stage?

I think we´d stand a chance.

It's a different game entirely mate. Our past European experiences where we've gone out with not much more than a whimper shows that.

Well, no. Because I said I'd be over the moon if Everton had to play 40 games and our rivals had to play close to 80.

Here's the quote again:

I want Liverpool to progress as far as humanly possible in the FA and Europa League, because every game they play is like a shot in the heart of any chance of finishing 4th. Same with Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea... the lot of them. If Everton played 40 games flat (1 FA Cup 3rd Round defeat and 1 League Cup 2nd Round defeat) a season, and Liverpool/Spurs/Chelsea/Arsenal played close to or at the theoretical maximum of 81 games a season, I'd be over the moon.

Which is echoing our manager:

But Moyes feels fans still have to be realistic in their thoughts of potentially reaching the Champions League places, adding: "That is what we will try to do, but it is going to be tough.

"If anyone thinks we are a shoo-in to do it - I'm telling them it is going to be a long, hard season.

If I had said "Yes, I'd love Everton to go out of the FA Cup every year, I'd be over the moon about it", I'd agree, but I didn't. I qualified it very clearly with a very obvious set of reasons that your post highlights. As you say, Brennan is trolling over a choice of words to avoid the wider point. He can carry on doing so, I'm not going to change my opinion to accommodate a blatant troll.
