Your Time Is Gonna Come

Basically what Brennan91's saying is that cup competitions in general are a waste of time and it's the league games that are your bread and butter.

At least one person is saying that, paul.
And the thing that I found odd was that more than one post referred to "deluded blues" holding the above views when only one person came out and said anything that extreme and the last one was quoting me when talking about delusion etc but apparently not referring to my posts. In fact, it was about Tubey's view. Bit confusing is all.

Reckon Tubey was exaggerating a little like.
Or popcorning. Possible. In fact, that'd be ace.

To be fair mate:

Your stance makes more sense than some of the ones shown in this thread, i know you don't think winning other stuff is pointless.

If you're going to quote me, quote the whole posts or don't bother at all.

Specifically referring to the last one - "Yep" - which you've conveniently edited heavily.

Erm, did you just say you'd be over the moon if Everton were knocked out of both cups in the first match ?

Yep. If it gave us a greater chance of being 4th, as it does this season.

If we had had our usual terrible start and were basically out of contention now, then I'd advocate a go at the FA Cup because you only start it in January.

But the League Cup can go to hell each and every year as far as I'm concerned.

The full response right there... Tacky, crap, crap, crap debate tactic on a forum board that.

But the qualifier doesn't change the fact that you said you would be over the moon at the prospect of Everton losing a match.

That's a fair point. I should have kept the if statement.

I'm not going to apologise for editing at all, because all I did was isolate the relevant quotes, I wasn't trying to misrepresent you merely reduce the amount of text not relevant to the argument, but I should have kept the if statement in that one.

Yes, it does. Because I'd be happy going out for a greater purpose, not just for the random pleasure of seeing Everton lose. Similarly, I'd be happy to see Liverpool win the last game of the season if it meant Everton securing 4th. Does that make me a Kopite?

Big difference. But then, according to your I'm "taking a sh*t on Everton's history" by saying the FA Cup is nowhere near as relevant in 2013 than it was in the 1980s. So I'm not surprised by your massively incorrect view on my opinions.

Apologies if that response sounded aggressive, but it really does make a massive difference to the overall view. Editing it just made it look like you were trolling, which I know you don't do, so I was confused.

By the way, what the hell is this sh*te about me saying we're "better" than the FA Cup? I'm not saying that at all - I'm saying you prioritise.

If Reading/QPR etc. put out a weakened side in the FA Cup to preserve the squad for a relegation battle, are they better than the FA Cup?

For me, it's really simple. Full focus on the league, because the rewards are infinitely more than a cup run, and our squad is so threadbare that the difference of 10 to 15 games extra a season from a good cup run can be the difference between Champions League qualification and winning the 7th place trophy.

In the middle of the season, you switch your ambitions. If we were in Liverpool's position now, I'd give the FA Cup a serious go. But if you're in the top six or seven at this stage of the season and you're a club like Everton and West Brom who have an outside chance of 4th as long as the core players stay together, then you'd be absolutely mad to prioritise the FA Cup.

Having a greater chance of finishing 4th isn't even a guaranteed result. You said you would be over the moon, or in other words, ecstatic, if Everton were to be knocked out of the League and FA Cup in the first round. Very strange thing for any Evertonian to say.

You said nobody over the age of 30 cares about it, and that it's worthless.

If you think something is worth zero, generally it means it's not worth your time, and by extension, you are better than it.

Seems pretty obvious that instead of just retracting your original and peculiar statement that you would be over the moon with an Everton loss, you decided to go down this path of how pointless and s**t the FA and League cups are. You should have just said you were OTT with the moon comment tbh.

Saying 'over the moon' implies you'd be standing up in the Gladwys Street whoopin and hollerin as our players walked off the pitch having lost 1-0 to Swindon in the third round because it would give us a higher chance of finishing 4th. I'm fairly sure you'd want to punch somebody who actually did that in real life.

Neither is prioritising the FA Cup going to result in winning it. If you emphasise the league, you lessen your chance of winning the cup. If you prioritise the cups, you lessen your chance of winning the league. It works both ways.

Go back and read the other post - I said if we played half the games of our rivals and it meant going out of the cups early and giving us a massive advantage towards fourth, I'd be over the moon.

That means I'd be over the moon at getting fourth by any means necessary.

Here's the quote:

I want Liverpool to progress as far as humanly possible in the FA and Europa League, because every game they play is like a shot in the heart of any chance of finishing 4th. Same with Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea... the lot of them. If Everton played 40 games flat (1 FA Cup 3rd Round defeat and 1 League Cup 2nd Round defeat) a season, and Liverpool/Spurs/Chelsea/Arsenal played close to or at the theoretical maximum of 81 games a season, I'd be over the moon.

I'm surprised you didn't label me a Kopite for the first sentence in that paragraph, such is your misrepresentation of my words.

None of this changes the fact that you'd be over the moon at Everton losing a match.
