Why do you say that? So we can beat the top teams in the premiership but we´d get humiliated by the Valencias, Schalkes and Olympiacos:es of the CL group stage?

I think we´d stand a chance.

At home we'd give anyone a game.

Away we'd get bummed by anyone better than FC ****arse from Lithuania.

We'd get bummed sadly. I hate saying that. I mean, look at Man City (hate always looking at other teams as examples etc but yeah), all the money in the world, still can't put it together. We might, but it shows how tough it is. We'd put a lot of resources towards it, and there's no guarantee of being there the following year, I could imagine our league performances dropping off.

God modern football is rubbish and depressing isn't it?

Celtic just qualified from the group. And they boast Georgios Samaras as a star player.

Spurs qualified from the group stages too.

Even so, it didn't really help Spurs onwards and upwards to bigger things. Celtic, well, they don't have any competition in their own league to worry about so don't have that problem

Depressing how big a mountain it is to climb to just get 4th, and then to stay there for a reasonable period to build on that success. Look at Arsenal, who always finish in the top 4 under Wenger, they haven't been able to win trophies, they haven't built on their success. There's other factors such as the manager/players of course.

It did.

2007/08 - Spurs finished 11th.
2008/09 - Spurs finished 8th.
2009/10 - Spurs finished 4th. Qualify for the Champions League.
2010/11 - Spurs finished 5th. Lost same amount of games as Arsenal in 4th, 1 more game than Chelsea and City in 2nd/3rd.
2011/12 - Spurs finished 4th. Don't qualify for the Champions League due to Chelsea winning it.

So since finishing 4th, they've went from mid-table makeweights to being at or in the top four for three seasons on the run, competing with the best in England and attracting and retaining good players.

If Moyes had been at Spurs, the sky would be the limit.

Not really sure what your point is about Celtic. You said we would be bummed by clubs in the Champions League - Celtic haven't been this year, so why would Everton? I'm confident we have a better side than Celtic do.

I do think Elong's right that the main reason Celtic are doing so much better than the scottish average in the CL this year is that they can afford to lose league games.

I mean they've lost 4 and drawn 4 league games already this season which is a lot for a league with a competive title race but they can afford to do it and still win the title comfortably. They can afford to concentrate resources and motivation on the CL and drop points in the league the way Chelsea did last year.

It's the main advantage they have over teams in a competitive league.

AF's put my Celtic point a lot better, cheers.

Regarding Spurs, they've won a couple of League Cups without finishing 4th (more success than us) and I think they've achieved what they have in the last few years due to a very good manager for them in Redknapp, who despite the saggy skin and tax dodging does possess some ability as a leader.

Agree about the Moyes at Spurs thing, in fact they may have done even better as I think he's a better manager than Redknapp.

Didn't the Spurs owners also invest a lot of money into the team over the last 5 years? They haven't purchased players from Champions League money alone have they? Genuine question.

2005/06 - Spurs finished 5th.

It's the Ramos years that are the blip. Not the last few.

They also spent the same if not more on transfers pre CL money then they do now. They're just a very riuch club.

And you accuse other people of missing out key info to suit their argument

Conveniently starting the finishes at 11th. Nice.

Yeah, I was struggling to remember them as a "mid-table makeweight" to be honest.
