Are we arguing that the 1986-87 league win meant nothing then? If European football is the only goal.

And all dixies trophies were useless too.

No, different era. Literally chalk and cheese. Back in that era, success DID breed success and money didn't mean everything.

Look at my earlier posts - I wish we still lived in the glory years where football was great, money didn't mean everything and the FA Cup was the centre point of every English fan.

But it's now nearly 2013. Very, very different world.

Mourinho won the league cup with chelsea and the copa del rey with Real. And claimed both trophies were massive and set the scene for the league titles that followed.

Meanwhile Villarreal got relegated in the same year that they played CL football.

Trophy win breed more trophy wins. CL football doesn't.

Because I live in Bulgaria and have nothing to do in this case, have B.K to leave or sell the club immediately. Everton deserve more! We are fans of teams outside England have nothing to do, but you're there to do!

Portsmouth won the FA Cup in 2008 and are now in League One. But I don't make the leap from that to "winning the FA Cup means you'll get relegated" or "trophy wins mean you're club will basically go under". Individual examples mean nothing at all.

Are you sure massive, massive, massive amounts of money and stellar squads had nothing to do with Mourinho winning the league titles by the way? ;)

4th (and now 3rd) only gets us to a qualifying round and we all know what happened last time. Therefore winning the FA Cup is preferable all day.

2nd, now that's a different matter. Guaranteed income from getting to the CL group stage, and the chances of attracting better players to the club as long as The Board/The Bank don't snaffle it.

It would be a major step forward.

But we aren't going to finish 2nd so I'll take winning the FA Cup thanks.

But winning a trophy guarentees you at least one trophy even if it doesn't breed further success.

For getting into europe to be better than that you need to have it lead to two or more trophies in most cases. And it doesn't.

Like I said before you're trading a bird in the hand for the prospect of lots in the bushes which you probably won't be able to catch.
