will we sell a top player

And look at their keepers? Schwarzer, Friedel, James (15 teams), and take away the Barcodes, Boro and West Brom who are all religation fodder anyway so they wouldnt even attempt to have a go at buying him (18 teams). So that leaves Hull and Sunderland.

I'm not saying he's rubbish by saying only promoted sides would want to sign him. But by looking at us in 6th and the teams above us, they wouldnt want him, and the teams below have equally good keepers. So that leaves the promoted sides or Hull and Sunderland...but we wouldnt sell anyway. It was just a hypothetical list me old china. Howard is an equally as good a keeper as any in the prem.

Well i'd take Howard over James, Jussi, Green, maybe Given, as he's either better than, or as good/better and younger than them. Possibly over Gomez aswell, or at least, i would have a few months ago. There are few keepers in the prem that have his combination of quality and relative youth.

I dunno about Green - he's younger and developing well. I think Given and Jussi are great and very underrated keepers who I rate over Howard. When you talk about players who can win games, those 2 can save games. Because they play behind poor defences they've litterally kept their teams in the game.

Dunno if Howard could do that because he's never been bombarded as much as those keepers have in the past due to our defence...but I dunno if I could see him being able to weather storms like they can.

James I've never rated.

Well Green is hardly a youngster anymore, he's 29 now. I guess it's true about Howard not having had to prove himself in the same way that Given and Jussi have, but there's two ways of looking at that. One, from what I've seen he could do just as well as them in similar circumstances. And two, that justs means they've had more oportunities to show how good they are, whereas Howard's have been more limited, therefore inflating their reputation and 'deflating' his.

i think we might sell someone to raise money. not sure who though.what would joseph yobo be worth now. seems to have lost his form a bit.

Baines to Barcelona for £15m after his breathtaking display setting up four of England's five goals against Slovakia, and nicking the fifth himself with a cheeky chipped free kick from just outside the box in injury time.

Moyes announces that together with money already promised the summer will see a rash of new signings.
Instead all that appears is Rob Earshaw (£5m plus, on appearances) who doesn't play until November thanks to a groin strain, an unknown Moldovan who later transpires to have been an internet hoax and a curious red patch which blossoms from the manager's nose every time he talks to the media, and on the strength of which he lands the role of Rudolph in Kenwright's Xmas panto at the Everyman.

Maybe sell Arteta so we can buy fluffyhead at Hull.
Is it me or is that the kind of thing we do!

I honestly don't think we should let anybody go and give ourselves a strong bench with a couple of decent signings into the first team.

I'm reading a lot about the keeper situation on here. Can those of you who know better than I, please tell me how good is Iain Turner?

Maybe if we sell Lescott, Arteta, Cahill and Yakubu, we could finally make a decent offer for Sean Davis or Paul Dickov

I'm pretty sure Dikov is going to Barcelona, James. And surely Davis would cost in the region of £20m? Reckon we should set our sights a bit lower to be honest.

Castillo and VDM will be through the Goodison exit door for sure.
Also possible Valente, Jacobsen and possible even Anichebe (if we receive a decent bid).
The loan of Jô will come to an end and if we don't sign him, we'll definately need a replacement.

So we will need at least three new players, but with money probably being tight as usual, it will be a struggle I believe. in an ideal world, it would be something like 6-7 new players coming in.

My wish list:
Dirk Marcellis
Manuel Fernandes/Steven Defour/Jonathan de Guzman
Lewis Holtby
Niko Kranjcar
Jermaine Pennant
Vagner Love (if Jô doesn't probe himself at Everton during his loan).

Don't know much about this Holtby, but he seems to be quite highly rated by the fans of Aachen and is attracting lots of interest from Bundesliga clubs. A fee of 1,5m GBP is quoted, so should be worth the risk.

Howard, Hibbert, Neville no one would want unless its a promoted side.

What's up with that? We aint got a good back up keeper so Howards here to stay. Non of the top 4 clubs would want him, and the ones below us have already got some quality keepers - Green, Jussi, Kirkland, Gomes, Given etc - so the only ones who'd want Howard would be teams with gash keepers ie the ones that come up from the Championship.

Sorry, but don't agree with that. I wouldn't swap Howard for Reina or Almunia tbh and is he really that much worse than Cech? Never understood why Howard gets criticised that much. Without doubt in my top 5 op PL goalkeepers.

I never said that though. I said the top sides wouldn't want him, that's not a go at his ability it's more about those already having keepers at his or higher ability, the same with others mentioned. He would never be sold anyway, I was just looking at the starting team and how much they would cost

Sorry, my mistake. Obviously misread that.(y)

How much would Defour cost?

Think, it all depend on whether or not Liege will make the CL this season. If they become champions and qualify for the CL, his price will probaly be in the same bracket as Fellaini's last year. If not, I think it will be somewhere in the region of 7-8 million.

Would prefer Fernandes though.

Where are they in the Belgium League?

Bar the Liverpool and Everton games haven't really seen alot of Defour, is he as good as the Belgium's make out?

In second place at the moment, one point behind leaders Anderlecht. Think Defour is a very good player, but only young. Will take a good few years before he has fullfilled his potential. Problem is, that he's too good for the Belgian league, but I doubt if he's ready for a full season in the PL yet.
